Fairly fruity aroma - raisins, oranges. Also some bready yeasty notes. Flavors of sweet fruits - raisins and dark fruits. Also spicy and yeasty and a tad bitter. Decent beer.
ReRate: I had an aged bottle courtesy of goldtwins. My total score only increases by 0.1. I enjoyed the flavors more in the aged bottle and overall it was a little better, but the palate was not as good. There’s definitely a catch to this one - let it age a bit, but don’t let it sit around too long. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 9, 2005 Loam, detergent, some sugary sweetness and a little good old fashioned dirt/sweat mixture, this beer is more than a one trick pony in the aroma department. None of the tricks are particuarly good, but still they are in the repetoire. Cloudt brown color with an imitation belgian style head that fades to nickle thickness far before any native belgian beer would. Bread pudding/rum and brown sugar sweetness with a creamy malt backbone. Flavor is nice if less rounded than many of this style. Cries for some spiciness which never comes. Still it is an above average beer. CapFlu (3491), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

Pours a medium-sized, white foamy head with a deep mahogany body. Nose is of figs and ash. The flavour is of red wine, figs and oranges. I found the higher 8.2% ABV to be well hidden and somewhat smooth. A good belgian stong... paul9639 (116), New Hampshire, USA

Virtually no head, murky brown color...smells somewhat of scorched, carmelized raisins w/ some brown sugar & bananas. Sweet w/ some sourish twang that reminds me of grapes...maybe a bit tannic??? Interesting... biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA
