Aroma of wheat, and malt and dates, and sweetness. Initially sweetness with a bitter/sour finish. I am drinking this to drown my sorrow as yet again, the colts get beat by New England. fly (1333), austin, Tejas, USA

Very interesting, complex to a degree that I have a hard time pulling the elements apart, but enjoy the struggle. Nice. atpayne (615), Zionsville, Indiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 9, 2004 Cloudy brown with a large tan head. Sweet sugary malty aromas, yeast, and grassy and fruity aromas. There is a slight sourness and a nice bitter presenece in the flavor. JonR888710 (999), Cochabamba, Bolivia
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 4, 2004 Very dark purplish brown with a sugar cookie colored, off-white head. Head is pretty sparse and lasts only about 20 seconds. Smell is prodigous malt with purple grapes, sugars and fresh cut grass. Taste is clear and potent with tons of sugary fruit flavors (plums, grapes), anise, sour concord grapes, sour cherries and figs. 8.2% isn’t advertising, just nice and subdued. Nice beer, nothing outstanding, but surely solid. Reminds me a bit of the Gouden Carolous Winter from ’03. Sweet and spicy. BBB63 (4271), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 21, 2004 Bottle: Slightly murky copper hue with a fading head and some lace. The aroma has notes of grassy and piney hops, bready and caramel malts, plum, grapefruit, dusty and earthy yeast esters, wood, and candi sugar. The taste starts quite sweet, just as expected from a Belgian Strong, lots of fruits undertones too. The nice balance of biting hops and a twang of lemongrass. The alcohol level is slightly noticeable but works well for the beer. The feel is sharp, biting, and aggressive. This is a yummy brew, whatever the style is suppose to be. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 12, 2004 Dark brown color and a tiny bit of foam formed on top. The aroma has notes of plum, oak and oysters in it. Flavor is sweeter malt that has a good heft to it. There is a bit of caramel in the begenning mouthfeel, the it tastes more earthy. There is a rather pronounced bite towards the end where the hops and the alcohol catch up the the rest of the beer. Fortunately that does not hinder the aftertaste of having a good warming earthy malt taste. 5000 (2634), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 9, 2004 Bottle pours reddish brown, tilting towards the red side, medium frothy off-white head, fairly attractive lacing, with lively carbonation.   Sweet aroma, some caramel and dark pitted fruit.   Comes across as somewhat musty/earthy... lightly sweet, and a tad bready/yeasty.   Decent body, enjoyable mouthfeel.   Finishes sweet, some brown sugar, bready, with a hint of dark pitted fruit.   Fairly tasty for a U.S. made Belgian Strong.   Thanks goes out to goldtwins for the trade!

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 28, 2004 Brown colored and hazy. Aroma of plums, brown sugar, and some earthy hop flavors. I didn’t pick up much of the bread flavors from the yeast, which to me is one of the defining characteristic of a Belgian. Body was carbonated and full. Sweet sticky finish. Thanks Berr!
