Poured a dark, hazy brown color with a small off white head. Aromas of plums, molasses, some cherries and sweet malts (a lot going on there). Tastes of the same. Lightly tart and sour. Body is a little on the thin side (after the aroma and initial tastes, I expected a little more out of the body). Alcohol well hidden. Overall, a very good beer.

Color, a dark, plummy brown, under a fine, creamy head. Aroma: lush and full of fruit, beautiful and deliriously deep, slightly spicy, with further fruity develops, cherries and berries, but burnt. Juicy hops and rich malt jump out through the nose, a perfect barleywine bouquet. This spent considerable time under the olfactory openings. Body is medium, not quite as full as I’d like. Flavor is firmly on the full side, though, bright and beaming with dark, twisted fruit. Long finish, very tasty. My notes on this sampling finished a bit early, perhaps the "mere" 8% ABV had a hand in curtailing further critical reckoning. Nevertheless, my final words penned at this session with this outstanding barleywine were "Yum--I like it..." And, maybe, that’s enough...

Reddish amber color out of the bottle with almost no head. Dark malt nose with some plum in it. Lots of sugar sweetness with some raisen, plum, molassess and caramel. Seems flat. Not very interesting. Thanks to willblake for the bottle.

Almost non-existent head. Pleasant bold yet sweet aroma. Tastes similar to the Gruit to me. A standard ale with some sweetness. Also a little homebrewy. Alcohol is present. I kind of want to box like the guy on the bottle, but that might be unrelated. A good beer, but not their best.

Bottle. Brown, fair tan head. I can’t really describe the aroma, each smell smells like something different. Kind of crazy. This tastes great. Other people say this is really alcohol-y...I think theres actually almost no alcohol taste at all. Crazy. But good.

Cloudy Brown, no head. Musty, basement aroma, plus some fruit. Fruity flavor (prunes?), then a spicy, nutty flavor. Some alcohol burn as well, which is kind of unpleasent. Seems similiar to an abbey dubbel. Thanks, Springslicker!

Dark brown color with a durable, lasting tan head. The aroma is pretty complex with molasses, coffee and sweet malt. The taste is roasted malt, bitter but not like hops were used, but bitter some other way, spicey (pepper and clove), taost and chocolate. I really don’t know what to make of this, as far as style goes. All that matters is if I like it or not and this is a beer I’m going to have to drink a few more times to see if I really like it or hate it. Very strange.

Hazy red color with no head. Sweet malt aroma with a pretty high alcoholic knock to the face. The taste seemed to just vanish into the night. Some alcohol and spice, but not much else. Good, but nothing great.
