Commercial Description:
Baltus, a hybrid style, is a top-fermented beer made with English floor malts, malted wheat and noble hops. A classic European yeast strain with a subtle yet discernable estery profile is employed. A warmer fermentation, followed by a period of cold conditioning serves to develop and refine this complex beer.

This beer pours with a deep amber/red body topped by a thick head with a good amount of lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet and malty yet slightly sour, bitter and spicy. The flavor si sweet yet tart with a slight spiciness and a vinious note. Medium to full bodied, dry and slightly warming.

Poured a mahognay color with a slim off-white head, virtually no lacing, big malty nose, sweet fruity aroma, very complex & dry flavors, dry finish as well, sweet & malty character, slight hint of alcohol in the body, very nice Belgian ale

Poured a deep mahogany with zip on the foam.hazy.Nose is intense as I am blindsided by aromas: spices, middle eastern fruits, syrupy sweetness, alcohol. Not unlike the aroma cast off by Rochefort 8.A little let down as this beer tastes like it is soured.Funny because the aromas are so acute but the flavor is just sour.

Obtained as one of the ten selections that came my as a part of BIF 10 via beeradvocate Lupe, this beer poured a nice mahogany and red color. There was a very small head that was gone without much fanfare. The aroma was very malty and vinous with a spicy warm bite. The taste was intense with both sweet dark fruits and bitter tannins with an intense spiciness lurking in the backgrounds. There was a nice chocolaty roastiness and a mild acidity in the taste as well. This was basically like a beefed up Dubbel cut with a Porter. The complexity made this a sipper and not a downer.

Pours a murky reddish-brown with hardly any head. The taste is very different, malty but with a subtle sour counterpart. Almost like a thin barleywine mixed with a Belgian. Very interesting.

I have been a fan of this brewery for a while. This one certainly sounded interesting given the description. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a cloudy dark brown with almost no head. The aroma was strong roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor was sour apple and roasted malt with a fruity sourness on the finish. The texture was noticeably flat. A very interesting brew that I will have to revisit again some time.

Port, dark fruits, grapefruit and candi sugar nose. Big malty flavor - plenty of dark fruits, toasted malts, cutrus and an alcoholic/grapey finish.
