Commercial Description:
Baltus, a hybrid style, is a top-fermented beer made with English floor malts, malted wheat and noble hops. A classic European yeast strain with a subtle yet discernable estery profile is employed. A warmer fermentation, followed by a period of cold conditioning serves to develop and refine this complex beer.

This is a ok Belgian strong ale. Earthy, sweet, and plum flavors. Finishes smooth, clean, and crisp.

Dark amber colour with predominant ruby highlights and a thin soapy tan head. Pleasant aroma of sweet pit fruit, raisins and caramel with the complexity of malt and other fruits. Heavy-bodied; Carbonated mouthful; Sweet inital taste, definately malty with the extra fruityness. Aftertaste bittered from the malt and left sweetened from the fruit and sugars. Overall, a good beer, nice and carbonated. I bought this twelve ounce bottle at Chevy Chase Wine & Liqours in Washington, D.C.

Some malt sweetness in the aroma, a bit of sour. Thinnish body with a funky sweet and sour finish. Hops are there but in the backgound. Very similar yeast profile to the lunacy. Lacking in complexity.

I liked this one. Really dark plum, raising and fruit flavors. Noticable alcohol. Tastes like pear and butter fried in a pan -- sweet, but a hint of citric acid. Some nice bitterness in the end.

Smoooooth malty flavor and aroma. Esters are low but discernable, adding to the complexity. Drier as it warms, mixing warm bread and alcohol, so damn smooth throughout, rich and creamy.

Smells like car wax - no, that's my hand - I'm waxing the car. Aroma is actually smoky and malty. flavor is sweet with an alcohol kick at the end. I also detect some banana in there. Finished well. Different and complex, a nice change of pace. But I wouldn't drink more than one at a time.

Thin head. Aroma of sweet raw bread dough. Many flavors. When I read the label I expected that I would taste a blend of the wheat the english malt and the Belgian influence. Instead they all took their turns expressing themselves seperately which made for an interesting mouthful shifting between the different flavor. As it warms a slight alcohol vapor is present but it is by which provides a warming effect. An interesting beer but I doubt I would get it repeatedly.

Poured a cloudy dark reddish brown color with a very small head. Sweet aroma of whiskey and sweet dark fruits. Fruity taste including licorice sweet toffee and a dry wood taste.
