Commercial Description:
Baltus, a hybrid style, is a top-fermented beer made with English floor malts, malted wheat and noble hops. A classic European yeast strain with a subtle yet discernable estery profile is employed. A warmer fermentation, followed by a period of cold conditioning serves to develop and refine this complex beer.

Draught: Aroma of nuts, caramel malts, floral hops, and raisin. Poured amber/brown in color with a small off-white head. No lacing. Cloudy. Full of tiny particles. Not sparkling. Flavor of sweet and sour sauce and some spices. Medium body. Sticky, thin texture. Soft to average carbonation. Dry finish. Sour, but not Lambic sour.

Thanks alot Beerbill this was a great belgian and boy was it strong. I got this in a trade and it had no head but a nice dark redish amber, and did have some minor laceing along the sides of the glass. The aroma is a nice sweet sugar cane and candy with roasted malt. As you take the first sip it fills your mouth with fruits, carmel malt and a nice creamy finish. I also liked the nice initial hoppy bite but faded a little more each time you take a sip.

Bottle from 2003 at Euology in Philly: pours a dark redish brown with no head, aroma is sweet with hints of alcohol, taste is of dark fruit, thin moutfeel, almost a bit watery, a slightly flat taste too. Still, a pretty good brew that seems to have held up reasonably well.

clear dark red, short lived whispy beige head, touch of lace, sweet candy malt aroma with some floral hops, creamy body, rich malt flavor, restrained sweetness, some nice fruity character of a lighter variety like grapes or apricots, light bitterness, great first beer of the weekend

Bottled. Poured a deep, syrupy, murky brown with a quickly-receding off-white head and some rising carbonation. The nose first found rich, toasty English caramel, less-prominent caramel, floral notes, and candied dark fruits. Flavor was rather strong with dark frutis and toffee.. accented by some alcohol warmth.. floral and mild peppery spices too. Syrupy and sweet on the palate, with a thicker body.. some sharper alcohol and oxidization evident, but still has some life left in it.. but probably best to drink ’em soon.

bottle, from trade with jasonmech77. Good aroma, sour & sweet. Initial sourness that opened up to the sweet as it warmed. Caramel, chocolate in the background. Little brandy. Dried fruit. Plum, raisin, date. Brown sugar. Get that tobacco scent I associate woth oxidation. Cloudy orangy dark brown color, small head and minor lace. Sour flavor. Oxidized with fruit, apple, pear, raisin, plum. ABV shows itself with the brandy or even a little of a spiced rum flavor. Medium body, smooth crreamy mouthfeel, bitter sour finish. Good brew, think it might be fading abit. Must of been intense fresh. Thanks for the retired brew jasonmech77.

sample at DLD - Pours amber with a moderate head. It smells of sweet malts and a bit of dark fruit. The flavor was both sweet and surprisingly sour. Medium bodied and lively, this one was... interesting.
