Commercial Description:
Baltus, a hybrid style, is a top-fermented beer made with English floor malts, malted wheat and noble hops. A classic European yeast strain with a subtle yet discernable estery profile is employed. A warmer fermentation, followed by a period of cold conditioning serves to develop and refine this complex beer.

Entered to celebrate my 14,000th review. Bottled. A hazy dark red beer with a thin tan head. The aroma is very sweet with notes of over ripe fruits and prunes as well as hints of oxidation. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, alcohol, over ripe fruits, and red wine grapes, leading to a dry alcoholic finish where notes of malt and straw lingers. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of boboski. Pours a very cloudy reddish with a small rough off-white head. Aroma has overripe fruits and some alcohol. Medium-bodied, sweetish overripe fruitiness and some oxidization. A little low in carbonation. Has a light underlying acidity. 220808

12 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy brown with a bubbly tan head. Dense fruity and roasted malt. Loads dense fruity aromas. Fruity and dense caramel malty flavour with a lingering malty profile and a dense fruity base. Solid sweet and mild oxidised. Nice caramel and chocolate malty finish. Smooth and pleasant.

Bottle 50cl.
Unclear medium amber color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, vintage, prune, cask wood, moderate alcohol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. (220808)

clear dark red, short lived whispy beige head, touch of lace, sweet candy malt aroma with some floral hops, creamy body, rich malt flavor, restrained sweetness, some nice fruity character of a lighter variety like grapes or apricots, light bitterness, great first beer of the weekend

Medium brown colour; some woody, caramelly malt, slight band-aid. Malty, some hard candy, caramel. Very muddled flavours and overall lack of focus.

No head atop a dark muddy brown body. The aroma is sweet syrupy caramel, with a slight oaky port quality. Flavor starts quite sweet (sugar/molasses). But at mid-taste, it just sort of sits on the tongue. Surprisingly, it’s even watery at times. The aftertaste has a slight alcohol burn that works ok with the port/oak at the finish.

Poured a dark, hazy brown color with a small off white head. Aromas of plums, molasses, some cherries and sweet malts (a lot going on there). Tastes of the same. Lightly tart and sour. Body is a little on the thin side (after the aroma and initial tastes, I expected a little more out of the body). Alcohol well hidden. Overall, a very good beer.
