Bottle at Paul’s place for Kan’s visit, courtesy of Paul himself I believe. 2004 bottling. Pours a just hazy ruby brown with a thin beige head. Bourbon, vanilla, wood, malt, prunes, plum. A bit boozy at first, but smooth and delicious after that. Soft smoke, vanilla, caramel, plums. Finishes sweet with a little lingering prune and caramel. Tasty. | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jul 12, 2009 Random pour at RBSG 2009. Aroma is full with brown apple, flour, brown sugar and light roast. Almost no bourbon left on this thing. Color is a flat reddish brown. Like a cup full of powder or sauce. Flavor is a great example of barleywine: wet wood, caramel and dark malt, just a very slight edge of alcohol holding it all together. Probably just another year before this becomes something to pour on ice cream.
