Bottle thanks to a trade with eyedrinkale. I forgot to add this rating from a while back. I know I enjoyed this barley wine and I may not get another shot at trying this one again. 3/28/08 Damn it got another taste at "Spring in the new year with brett" at fordests house. Still agree with my earlier rating

Pours a golden brown with almost no head, light lacing. Aroma of sweet roasted malts, caramel, and oak. Flavor is sweet caramel. Smooth with a little alcohol burn going down.

Rerate; my all time favorite. 2005 Bottle with a lot of thanks to golubj for finding me this one. Really excited to try it. Poured a very rich, murky brown color with only the smallest hint of head. Aroma was good and well balanced; a nice caramel presence with good bourbon and wood notes. However, what really stood out was a nice vanilla presence. Aroma was a bit sweet with a mild, but noticable hop presence. Amazing flavor and palate. It was like velvet on the palate; soft and smooth. Like the aroma, a great blend of flavor, although the vanilla again stood out positively. The bourbon aging definitely enhances and does not overpower the beer. A great caramel taste, slightly sweet, with a small peppery hop presence. Some nut and fruit elements too. Alcohol dangerously well hidden. A new top 5 beer for me. Thanks again Jon.

2005 750 ml bottle via trade with luiss a year ago - Pours a hazy light brown color with a thin off white head. Faint spotty lacing. Aroma is sweet toasted malt, faint cola, and light oak/bourbon. Flavor is toasted caramel malt, dark esters, and some alcohol. Medium to full body. Very smooth mouthfeel. A good beer. Thanks Luis.

I was fortunate enough to have this recently on Tap @ BTAH. I believe it was an aged 05. Sooo good. Lots of flavor still and complex. Lot of alcohol but not too hot. Like a port or brandy essence. A bit of sweet caramel and vanilla. A bit sticky but not cloying. I like.

Mesa Gathering October o7. Bottle vintage 05 coutesty of Dorwart. Aroma of sweet tobacco. A sweet cherry brandy flavor. Give 4 from notes.

Should have an opportunity to rerate this one seeing Craig has a bottle to share.
1/20/08 Cbkschubert gave me another chance to taste this one. Wooden barrel oak aroma with some alcohol hitting the nose. Thick body texure with sweet caramel, molasas, tobacco flavor. Smooth concidering alcohol content. Number didn’t change,

Courtesy of Pailhead. Dark, transparent, mahogany, tan film for head. Nice buttery/vanilla sweet bourbon and caramel nose. Flavor on par. Really mellow bourbon, over caramel and toffee, great balance for a BBA BW. Oily smooth mouthfeel. Very well done.

Bottled. Burgundy coloured. Light brown head. Sweetness, spice, ripe fruits, vanilla and some caramel. Flavour of vanilla, alcohol, ripe fruits like prunes and very distinct bourbon notes, which is quite balanced and smooth thought. Medium to full bodied. Has a spicy and fruity bourbon end. Very nice brew, which I thank Ughsmash for sending to Søborg.
