sampled at "An Evening with Pantanap #1": thanks to holdenn for bringing this. 2005 vintage, 750ml bottle. pours dense ruby with off white head. nose of baker’s chocolate, tobacco, and caramel. flavor is sweet vanilla. tobacco, caramel, cotton candy, nutty, some baker’s chocolate. really sweet stuff. alcohol is well hidden. body a tad thin. tasty stuff but where’s the bourbon character to it?

Big thanks to Padrefan98. I’m always weary of all the barrel aging, however this was enhanced and not deminished by being barrel aged. Pours dark brown with almost no bubbles or head. Aroma sweet malt, dark fruit, and caramel. Taste of much the same. This was very nice indeed.

Knocked back a couple of these in my days. Thick and rich, one of my all time favs. The Barrel Aging doesn’t take away from this. I have a had them with 2 different labels. Heavy and syrupy, this is a treat.

2005. Dark brown/amber. Thin, short lived layer of tan foam. Aroma of sweet caramel/toffee, old wood, slight oxidation, fresh and dried dark fruits, light dose of roasted malt. Flavor adds some lightly smokey char, vanilla biscuits, lower oxidation presence. Body is medium to medium/full, a little light and lacking in carbonation. Other than the palate, very good barleywine.

2005 Bottle. Thanks to Joe McPhee for the trade awhile back. Pours a medium murky red brown body with thin head. Aroma is vanilla, sweet malt, candied sugar. Flavor is sweet vanilla, dried fruit, candied sugar, and a sweet malty taste. Very smooth, nice sipping beer. Low alcohol burn. This is an fantastic beer and perfect for the cool weather. Nice mouthfeel.

750 ml bottle from OhioDad (I think). Pours a hazy brownish plum color with a small tannish head. Sweet aroma with brown sugar, oak notes along with brandy/sherry flavors, prune and herbal hops. Rich sweet flavors, dark fruits, more brandy, nice balance of alcohol and wood. Smooth creamy body, full and round on the tongue. Nice treat!

750ml bottle, 2005 vintage
Consumed in Aug 2007, aged two year

Shared by kmweaver. The look on this beer is just fantastic - the color is an amazingly rich and deep ruby red color, mostly clear, with a small fuzzy tan head. Nose of sweet tobacco, black cherries, doughy yeast, with moderately strong notes of oxidation. Taste up front is candy sweet and rich, with notes of black cherry skins and tobacco. Over the middle it turns more bitter and numbing on the tongue, with toasty crushed grains, before finishing smooth, ending with a sticky, bitter plum and cherry wood (and stem) flavor.
