Heavyweight Barrel Aged Old Salty

Pours a dark amber with ruby hues throughout the glass. Aroma on this beer was sweet malt, raisins/plums, bourbon, vanilla, and some oak and earthy notes. Taste is sweet malt, caramel, bourbon, oak, and raisins/plums. Some dry oak in the finish. very good barleywine, and the bourbon and oak notes were perfectly in balance, not overwhelming at all.

Bottle of 2005 provided to us by Pailhead: Russet hued with a minimal head. The nose detects vanilla, bourbon, leather, toffee, a hint of peat and spice and some earthy esters. Apple and a vinous sherry flavor upfront supported by pepper and clove. Lots of malt in the background with additional notes of wood and smoke. The mouth feel is smooth and oily and nicely warming effect on the chest, moderate bite on the edge of the palate. I dig it, a well done barrel aged brew and should even get better.

Bottle (2005): Courtesy of Eyedrinkale via trade. Aroma of sugary caramel, fruit, butter, and faint bourbon and vanilla. Pours a transparent orangish-brown with a minimal off-white head that is just a ring. Sweet caramel and toffee up front with some residual sugar. Very nice subtle bourbon presence with light vanilla in the finish. Light bitter woody aftertaste. Sticky syruppy mouthfeel. A very well done bourbon barrel aged beer.

Pours out a nice ruby color with beautiful lacing. Aroma is of sweet malts, rasin and slight oak. Taste is nice and complex, the malty/fruity sweetness is very well balanced by the bite of the bourbon. Solid beer!

RBSG 06. Rum and raisins in the aroma. Very malty, salty (they aren’t kidding in the nomenclature), medium mouthfeel; raisins at the edges. Alcohol is well-hidden; nicely-balanced.

Sampled at RBSG06. Clear red color with a thin off-white head. Sweet caramel and malt aroma. Sweet caramel with a hint of sour. Lots of bourbon but very mellow.

Sampled at kp’s Cellar Party. Dark brown pour with a thin fleeting head. Thick dried fruit aroma with just a touch of bourbon. Smooth and sweet with just enough backing bitterness. Very good now, but I think this will improve with some age.

An amber/brown pour with a light tan head. An aroma of bourbon, sweet malt and light alcohol. A sweet flavor that reminds me of medicine but not in a bad way. A nice rich smooth fruity flavor. A slight sourness and the light flavor of alcohol not bourbon but alcohol. A really smooth drinking beer with excellent mouthfeel. An excellent beer.
