Tastes very sweet, some oakiness and vanilla, not boozy at all. Also got some cantaloupe in this one. pepsican (885), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA

No matter what I bring to a tasting he seems to always outclass me and bring something amazing like this gem. Thanks joey! Ruby pour with a thin off white head. Aroma is very sweet malts and candy sugar. Flavor was also really sweet caramel, brandy, sherry, smoke, brown sugar. Again, almost cloyingly sweet finish. Definitely a sipper, but I could sip for quite awhile. GregClow (2516), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Burgundy-brown colour with no head. Sweet aroma with notes of wood, vanilla and sour cherry, with some faint lactic notes as well. Soft mouthfeel. Flavour is quite nice - very sweet to start, with brown sugar, orange, wood, spice, smokes, hops and more - wow, this is good! Thanks for sharing Paul! | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 11, 2008 25.4 oz bottle, 2005. Muddy brown with a wisp of white head. Nose is caramel and raisin. Exceptionally smooth with no apparent alcohol but flavor on the thin side. Taste much like the nose; caramel and oak with slight hop drying. blankboy (3260), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 10, 2008 My bottle (750ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc, mabel & tupalev -- courtesy of ’Festivus 2007’. 2005 Vintage. Pours a hazy mahogany with a spare diminishing tan head. Aroma’s quite fruity along with wood, hops, vanilla and caramel malt. Delicious flavour is also fruity along with wood, caramel malt, hops, light alcohol and a hint of spices and smoke. Medium bodied, goes down pretty smooth. This is simply awesome, it’s a shame it’s retired. beerbill (1982), Laurel, New York, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 3, 2008 2005 Vintage. 750 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with a lovely rusty hue when held against light. Virtually no head except for a thin off-white ring that itself disappears after the first sip. The aroma is excellent with notes of oak, caramel, and vanilla. The flavor is also very nice with caramel, oak, molasses and vanilla up front with some alcohol and some very light oxidation at the finish. Smooth and sweet mouthfeel, but not cloying or sugary. I really enjoyed this one. jerc (3964), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 30, 2008 2008-03-28. Dark red tinged brown bdoy, headless (3+) Sweet tangy aroma, touch muted but you can tease out sweet fruity caramel malt, light alcohol, brief and restrained notes of wood barrel. (7+) Sweet flavour, lightly tangy fruit notes, very well rounded flavour. Light warming alcohol leaves the cheeks tingly, layers of fruits and sugars whose complexity escapes my capacity for adequate description. Smooth medium palate has lost a bit of carbonation perhaps (3+). Solid, very nice, and dangerously drinkable. 2005 Vintage bottle, shared by Blankboy

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 30, 2008 Tasting, courtesy of Fordest’s event. Beer #8. Brown pour with a small tan head. Powerful nose with lots of the wood/oak character showing thru, also present are raisins and dark fruits. One of the most intriguing aromas of the evening--I kept re-sampling the aroma over and over. The flavor, like the aroma, is big and bold and fulfills the high expectations garnered by the nose. The taste is very complex with toffee, dark fruits, whiskey and brown sugar. The mouthfeel is full and satisfying. The finish is long and dry. Overall: A first rate barley wine. I’m glad I had a chance to try this. Thanks Sean.
