Commercial Description:
A biere de garde or farmhouse beer. It's brewed exclusively with French pale malt and German hops. A long boil develops a deep amber color and malty complexity. A small amount of black pepper in the boil contributes a subtle spiciness. The beer is fermented with a wonderful monastic lager yeast and the finished beer is bottled-conditioned and packaged in 750 ml. corked bottles. The bottle wears a label of beaux art. It features an image of an abstract painting by Canadian artist: Christine Haley.

Bottle shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry & tupalev - courtesy of blankboy. Oh boy - we should’ve had this one earlier in the evening, I was too drunk to make very coherent notes by this point. My text reads "hazy golden-orange, strong yeast aroma, complex flavour of fruit and yeast, good!" So I guess I liked it.

Opaque peachy hay. If it weren’t for the small ring of foamy bubbles displaced around the top edge I would’ve thought I was lookng at a glass of wax. Aroma is fair with a medium sour orange and lemony tartness. A slight bit musty with a hovering coat of metalic scoring. Taste is also quite fair and brief. Uncomplexing and straight forward with a scimping sourness of orange, lemon, and nectarine. Small alkaline bitterness towards the finish that ends abruptly leaving a light fluffly dryness of yeasty wood and parched, old candy. Tart leftovers mix with a chalky residue. Feel is a tad shy of medium, flat and low ended carboation, some empty areas never quite fill in as th flavor character just doesn’t want to take off fully. It has and wants potential, but it just isn’t doing it for me. Quite plain actually. I’m being a bit generous, as its hard to put numbers to beers like this for me. I’m just not feeling it with this. It goes no where and the finish is reached too quickly and within itself doesn’t fair well with its chalky residue and off-parching citrus. This one can be just as subjective as any abstract painting. This one reminds me of the messy work by Guston.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow & tupalev -- courtesy of Thaichile. Pours a hazy amber-orange with a small creamy white head. Aroma of caramel malt, yeast, hops and spices. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, spices (especially black pepper), yeast and fruit with some hops and alcohol in the finish. Medium bodied. Biere de Garde is not a favourite style of mine but this is pretty good and kudos for the Canadian artwork.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, GregClow, Blankboy, Paul’s bottle. Dark yellow, small white head. Aroma of fresh malt, spices, and slightly sweet - ok. Taste - not bad. Crisp sweet, very spicy as it warms, some alcohol. Does not have the complexity of a couple of other exceptional beers in this style that I have tried, but is still quite solid. Love the label!

Bottle (750ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and tupalev - blankboy’s bottle, via trade with thaichilie. Poured very cloudy light orange with a small white head. Very funky spicy/hoppy aroma, black pepper, grainy malt, quite full-nosed. Very peppery taste, yeasty and hints of orange zest. Mouthfeel is moderately lively, a little bitter and astringent, pleasant and complex. Nice variation on the style, not as "weedy" as some Biere de Gardes, to my taste.

I was sent this one maybe a year ago and it waited patiently for the proper time to share it. Thanks to Jeffin7 IIRC. Large off-white head atop a amber body. Cinnamon graham cracker aroma, spices, toast & honey. Complex flavor as well, some spice, licorice, sweet herbs and alcohol. A different beer that can’t be described easily.

Bottle from Zathrus13.Thanks Jeff. I am not all that familiar with the style but it is a refreshing brew as it is very light on the tongue and pleasant. A bit of spices lend a nice offset to the malt. Has a good lingering aftertaste.

Poured about 12 oz into a snifter to start out. Aroma lead me to believe that ths beer had skunked I was eminded of a nasty Heineken. Getting past that, the appearance is sort of dull, simplay a nondescript slightly darker than camel brown. The head is quite rich and stands up throughout the session. Flavor is honey, coriander spice, and sweet almost apple fruitiness. Palate is unremarkable but not bad. Overall I can’t find anything actually wrong with this beer, but I can’t find much that is right about it either.
