Commercial Description:
A biere de garde or farmhouse beer. It's brewed exclusively with French pale malt and German hops. A long boil develops a deep amber color and malty complexity. A small amount of black pepper in the boil contributes a subtle spiciness. The beer is fermented with a wonderful monastic lager yeast and the finished beer is bottled-conditioned and packaged in 750 ml. corked bottles. The bottle wears a label of beaux art. It features an image of an abstract painting by Canadian artist: Christine Haley.

Bottle. Pours on the light side of copper with a big almost-white head. The aroma is sweet flowers, some grass, and sourdough. The flavor has a bready backbone, but lots of interesting nuance: lemon rind, rose petal, sea salt, honey, and a finish that resembles freshly ground black pepper. Pretty tasty brew.

Cloudy, coppery amber, withwith a big foamy head. Very intriguing aroma, herbal, and almost salty - fairly difficult to describe. Very soft palate. Subtle but definate note of honey, blended with, I don’t know, peepper? licorace? rose petal? caramel? Close, but none of those flavors really describe what I’m tasting. Very good, though. Thanks to Springslicker for sharing this one.

(Bottle 75 cl) Pours a hazy orangey golden with a creamy, off-white head. Spicy, peppery nose. Medium, dry body with a wee touch of honey and then some fantastic spicy notes that I cannot really pin out - thyme perhaps, or ginger? Dry but not overly hoppy finish. Tasted at the Oklahoma Beer tasting March 06 hosted by mjames and lilannie. 240306

Slightly murky yellowish orange color. Sweet, floral coriander and soap scent. Some floral orange and tangerine flavors, mildly tart and soapy in flavor. Mildly cloying, sticky, semi-frothy on the tongue... rind-like. Interesting and somewhat unique but I do think the New Jersey-ans have a little catching up to do with this style.

Cloudy golden, foamy (it gushed but had been agitated earlier). Honey, flowers, and fuselly. Dry and fizzy palate. Lightly hoppy finish, with some spicy pepper. Curiously clean.

Hazy orange color with a large white head (exploding out of the bottle) that diminished down to a light foam. Aroma of caramel malts. Light citrus flavor which is then dominated by sweet caramel malt.
