Commercial Description:
A biere de garde or farmhouse beer. It's brewed exclusively with French pale malt and German hops. A long boil develops a deep amber color and malty complexity. A small amount of black pepper in the boil contributes a subtle spiciness. The beer is fermented with a wonderful monastic lager yeast and the finished beer is bottled-conditioned and packaged in 750 ml. corked bottles. The bottle wears a label of beaux art. It features an image of an abstract painting by Canadian artist: Christine Haley.

Thanks to jsquire for bringing this to our Fort Wayne Tasting last night! Medium fizzy off-white head, no lacing, uncarbonated, murky, and an orange brown hue. Aroma was sweet, apples and a small hint of spice. Flavor was sweet and apple tasting and a little dry towards the end. Tingly mouthfeel.

Huge carbonation out of the bottle. 4 to 1 head to beer ratio. Settles slowly to a thin foam that last the duration due a decent amount of carbonation. Slight aroma of dry dog food, lots of malts and a little something else. I do not detect the spices though. Color is a ruddy/murky dark amber. Flavor is thick with malts, a bit of pepper spiceness, some alcohol presence and a bit dry at the finish. Nice alcohol warming as it goes down. A decent beer that I would probably try again.

Hugely peppery aroma with underlying sweetness and earthy, berry fruitiness. Muddy, opaque orange-brown with huge, off-white, frothy head that sticks to the sides of the glass and lasts nicely. Round maltiness with strong peppery flavour and some citrus-lemon/orange, berries and apple notes and occasional hints of alcohol. Aggressive carbonation is engaging on the tongue but overall perhaps a bit too strong and gassy. Some alcohol warming. Bottle enjoyed with MartinT, muzzlehatch and Rastacouere.

Biere de Garde and Various Oddments tasting, #6, with MartinT, Rastacouere and tiggmtl. 750 ml bottle. Opaque light copper-brown, darkest of the BDGs I think, smallish white head...strawberries and honey, pepper spice in the nose...in the mouth, extraordinarily well-balanced, full yet supple, fruity and earthy with a dry leafiness disintegrating in the complex ending, mistifying the tongue which has been lovingly coated in creamy malt. Probably my 2nd favorite after Bavaisienne.

Orange pulp lifted by alcohol passages and lively carbonation...Black pepper confetti cover nearly all of the citrusy bubbles though and become oppressive...A dry ending, diversified by faint earthy hop bitterness, does not renew interest...

Hazy golden with a big white head. Spicy, yeasty aroma with a bit of mustiness. Extremely carbonated. Kind of overwhelms you at first sip. Dry, yeasty flavor with a hint of pepper on the finish. Nicely done.

Poured a hazy yellow colo with a small white head. Aroma and tastes of ctitrus (oranges). Light spices and yeast. I have a bottle that I will let sit in the cellar for a while (interested to see how it compares a few years down the road).

Hazy orange-brown body with a foamy white head. Fruity, with honey tones, lightly toasted malt and some yeasty musk. Subtle phenolic pepper notes come through in the flavor to add an interesting flair. Medium sweet with some light bitterness to even it out. Velvety mouthfeel. An interesting beer but not exceptional.
