Commercial Description:
A biere de garde or farmhouse beer. It's brewed exclusively with French pale malt and German hops. A long boil develops a deep amber color and malty complexity. A small amount of black pepper in the boil contributes a subtle spiciness. The beer is fermented with a wonderful monastic lager yeast and the finished beer is bottled-conditioned and packaged in 750 ml. corked bottles. The bottle wears a label of beaux art. It features an image of an abstract painting by Canadian artist: Christine Haley.

A store by me had a ton of these until I bought them all. All brown bottles and not one was infected. Very nice flavor and body. Overall complex malts and sweet brown sugar. Some mild hop bitterness and some spices. Easy to drink and very good.

750ml Bottle: Sweet aroma. Smells of pepper, lager yeast, nuts, caramel, spices, and herbs. Poured copper/orange in color with a huge, rocky, beige head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of tiny particles. Heavily sweet flavor. Tastes malty, with notes of yeast, pepper, spices, caramel, nuts, and honey. A bit metallic. Medium to full body. Tingly, dry texture. Lively carbonation. Sweet, dry finish.

750 ml bottle. Lots of carbonation off this murky golden orange brew. Aromas were a bit tart with citrus and other fruits. Flavors were not at all tart. Sweet, and more fruit. Some spice in there too. I liked it a lot. Maybe this is really coming into age.

Poured hazy yellowish orange with a good size bubbly white head that lasted awhile. Aroma of sour citrus, cinnamon, and candy. Kind of a sour citrus flavor to start with some candy hints. Finished with some spice. Very smooth and drinkable. I wish I had more of this treat. Thanks Cornboy!

Originally received a 4.25 from me on 12/31/05. I loved it. Fantastic candied aroma. Sweet and tart and funky all in one. Spiced quite well. Quite drinkable. All the bottles I had paired wonderfully with all manner of holiday foods.

Thanks MikeTD for cracking this rare brew. Murky copper pour, with big white head. Aroma is citrusy and sour. Flavor is caramel bigtime, perfumy and boozy, brown sugar, molasses. Nutty and toffee in the background with just a great creaminess and lots of carbonation still.

Thanks to Trevor for this bottle. Pours orange with a huge, white fluffy head. Smells of spice and citrus. Flavor is spiced with a bit of up front bitterness. Palate is medium/full. I’m impressed that this beer has held up so well. It maintained a good head and did not taste "off" despite it being in the bottle some time.
