Commercial Description:
A biere de garde or farmhouse beer. It's brewed exclusively with French pale malt and German hops. A long boil develops a deep amber color and malty complexity. A small amount of black pepper in the boil contributes a subtle spiciness. The beer is fermented with a wonderful monastic lager yeast and the finished beer is bottled-conditioned and packaged in 750 ml. corked bottles. The bottle wears a label of beaux art. It features an image of an abstract painting by Canadian artist: Christine Haley.

2006 750 ml bottle via trade with jasonmech77 - Pours a clear golden color with a big off white head. Light carbonation. Lots of thick lacing. Aroma is esters, soap, light yeast and light malt. Has a sweet, lightly spicedfruity flavor with some nice toasted malt in the background. Medium body. This beer was a little better than I expected. Thanks Jason.

Not sure of the vintage, I purchased this in March ’07, not sure when they did the last run though. No indication on the bottle. Foams out of the bottle, and pours murky straw golden, with a white foamy head. Strong aroma of caramel, fruit, yeast, and a mild alcohol presence. Flavor is mostly light caramel and tropical fruit, with a mustiness similar to a saison, a nice mild citric like zest towards the finish, and an overall spicy undertone. Medium spicy palate, with fruity notes, and light effervescence.

750 ML bottle: Medium amber w/a thin white head. Lighly oxidized/papery @ first, followed by mediumt toasted & bready malts; lighly spiced peppery phenolic aroma w/ a hint of cherry fruitiness. Well balanced, caramelly & lighlty fruity flavor. Lots of toasted malts, very little peppery yeasty flavor. Finishes dry. Well hidden alcohol, medium thin body. Seems more barleywineish than Belgian style. Seems a little older than it migtht actually be, lightly oxidized!

I believe this is the first of this style I"ve had that was actually enjoyable. Big robust aroma yields a great big beautiful head. Very malty and sweet with definite caramel and plum flavors. Totally enjoyable.

Bottle. Reddish gold color with a huge foamy pale brown head. Bready aroma with a backdrop of alcohol. Caramel malts, light light hops. Slightly spicy... Like a BSA, Saison, Biere de Garde hybrid. Subtle complexity. A nice beer, not the best example of the style, but enjoyable none the less.

Hazy bright gold. Soapy off-white head. Earthy lightly sweetened flowers in the aroma. Some grain, soap and oxygenation. Sweet-like "farmhouse" lemony styling. Sweet old malt.

A robust interpretation of the style. Big malts and yeast creating a veritable bevy of flavor components. Caramel, bread, citrus and dark fruits. Too bad this will probably be the last time I get the opportunity to experience this beer.

Pours a hazy cinnamon amber, with a fluffy cloud-like head. Smells somehwat citric and spicy, but mellow at the same time. Very mellow sweetness, butmore spice in the taste than anything. Kind of resembles a saison. Sweet malts, and caramel are detected towards the finish. Pretty neat combination of spices and sweetness which blend well together.
