I got this in a trade a few months ago. Since some people are claiming that it has started to go downhill, I decided to crack it open when CharlesDarwin was in town. In my opinion this has held up well. I have never had a fresh bottle and with the demise of Heavyweight I’m unlikely to ever have one, but this was very solid. If you have one, open it and give it a try in case it does start to fade.
Aroma / Appearance - A peppery caramel aroma with hints of orange peels floats out of the glass. Overall the amber colored body gives up a set of sweet smells. The head on top is about one finger in height with a slight off white tinge.
Flavor / Palate - Bittersweet chocolate chips fill the mouth on the first sip. After that comes a wave of caramel, pepper and wheat bread. There is a yeasty dry aftertaste that leaves a malty presence on the throat. I almost wish I had another one as this is a 750 ml bottle that I could finish off myself. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 31, 2007 Cloudy orange with a medium head. Medium lacing. Aroma of yeast and tangerine. A slightly sour and chalky taste that you can feel on the back of your throat. Weird and interesting. holdenn (1449), Chicago, Illinois, USA

I always love to get the chance to try more heavyweight as its fading away quickly. Hazy orange in color with a tall beige head. Yeasty aroma, citrus fruits, a little corriander, a little funk. Citrus flavors, orange, carmel, yeast, candi sugars, and oak. There is a lingering sweetness that I’d like to dry out, but a tasty beer none the less. porterhouse (1163), Alna, Maine, USA

Wow this was a nice beer...Pours hazy light goldish amber, gets cloudier near end of bottle. A finger and a half of white head that recedes to about 1/4". Aroma is bready, doughy and citrus. Mouthfeel is wonderfully soft. Nice lacing. Tastes of light citrus, yeast, bread, and a touch of sour. A bit of pepper, esp. in finish. Some caramel emerges as beer warms and/or I got deeper into bottle. I thought this was fantastic. CharlesDarwin (1864), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 27, 2007 750mL. Lucious broad aroma with golden raisins, cream and toast. Nips of grain field. Pour of clouded golden-amber haze, with a sliky white rim. Flavor a unique dusky spice clade, toasts of rosebud and cardamon. Sweet apricot nectar and pear skins breeze through. Light and airy, heavily drinkable. Delicate, yet expressive. A lasting edge of fresh leaf, maybe a little almond on the backend. Very nice. Thanks brigadier! drewbeerme (2309), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 25, 2007 Fruity, caramel malt aroma with huge dried fruit and some spices with a hint of bubblegum esters. Cloudy straw-yellow with a thin white head that thins. It gushed a little on opening but not as bad as others I’ve seen. Sweet, caramel malt flavor with some brown sugar and a pronounced fruitiness that quickly changes to a dry chocolate laced finish. Medium-full body, nice and creamy with a super dry finish. Very nice. Thanks to Brigadier for sharing. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 9, 2007 Bottle courtesy of Shadey. Slightly hazy copper/orange. Off white head, tons of carbonation. Aroma nice blend of lite citrus and floral hops, farmhouse yeasty funk, soft pale malt background. Sweet malt flavor up front, fades into fruity esters, yeasty, farmhouse mustiness. Creamy smooth, with just enough carbonation. Very easy drink. Well done.
