Commercial Description:
A biere de garde or farmhouse beer. It's brewed exclusively with French pale malt and German hops. A long boil develops a deep amber color and malty complexity. A small amount of black pepper in the boil contributes a subtle spiciness. The beer is fermented with a wonderful monastic lager yeast and the finished beer is bottled-conditioned and packaged in 750 ml. corked bottles. The bottle wears a label of beaux art. It features an image of an abstract painting by Canadian artist: Christine Haley.

Thanks to Santa for this one. Body is a amber brown with a thin white head. Aroma is fruity, with cherries, apricots, almost a candy like aroma, also a bit of peanut brittle and toffee show up. Taste is very sweet with caramel, toffee, and alcohol showing up intitally followed by cherries, and a light toffee background. Wonderful beer.

Sweet and fruity, yet has a lingering spice character. Tangy beginning, peppery finish. This is a must try.

So ive been waiting to try this beer for months and it has been resting in my fridge the entire time. Finally, I take it out, pop off the cap, and im immediately soaked in foam which pours out like a gyser and covers my entire desk making everything ridiculously sticky. Needless to say, not the way i wanted to start trying this bottle. Beer poured a hazy dark orange color with a huge amount of white head and tons of carbonation. Aroma is a mix of caramel malts and citrus, especially grapefruit and banana. Flavor is an interesting mix of sweet and tart. Starts very caramely then becomes a vanilla banana flavor then finishes a tart grapefruit. Overall, an exceptional beer that i wish i could have gotten back the spillage from.

4 year old keg at the Earth opening. Thanks Tom! Clear copper with no head. Apple, pear, orange, and citric aroma with some berries, slight dark fruits, acidity, and ginger spiciness. The taste is crazy fruity and funky, with apples, coriander, cloves, spice, acidity, and a pleasant sour finish. Slightly flat, but aside from that, freaking delicious!!

This is the first of this style I have tried, and boy am I impressed. It's like a cross between a barley wine and a belgian strong ale. Light, ruby color, with a generous amount of lacing. Malty, yeasty, candy-like aroma. The flavor is of ripe fruits (cherries, grapes), yeast, and a slight peppery spice (as is suggested in the commercial description). This is a mighty fine beer. It's the third I've tried by this brewery, and now I think I will try any of their brews I can get my hands on.

Very nice representation of the style, and that is pretty rare by American breweries. They got this one right. A bit on the sweet side, but that was ok, because there was still plenty of grassy notes and yeasty qualities.

I really did not know what to expect, but this is a good beer. The beer is rich and malt forward, but the hops come on late and round the beer out. The addition of black pepper is evident, but not overwhelming. Long finish that is sweet and hoppy.
