Commercial Description:
A schwartzbier brewed as a cousin to our porter. Using the same ratio of malts and comparable hops and using our house lager strain we created a highly drinkable black lager.

750ml bottle courtesy of himerman. Pours brown with a nice tan head that settles down to a sustained thin head. Smells of caramel, maple, some pepper, some molasses and lots of earthy character. Tastes of cherries, semi sweet malt, hints of biscuits, touches of spice. What surprises me most about this beer is how well it’s held up. Very good example of the style.

Courtesy Dickinsonbeer. Pours watery cloudy and black with a thick white head. Aroma is kind of weird from being so old, sour with maybe a hint of celery. Big carbonation. Taste is much better that the aroma, sweet and yeasty. Nothing great, I think it might be a bit overaged.

3.5 years old. This is definitely unfiltered. Pours a cloudy, deep amber with mahogany offshoots, with a thin and sustenant off-white head. Caramel dominates what was likely initially more of a roasty chocolate character, but this seems to have aged very gracefully nonetheless. Mild hops are noted. Alcohol is undetectable. Sweet malt with moderate toasted grains swirl around in the nose. In the flavor bitterness is amped up a notch to a mild degree. Acidity veers toward lactic and is mild and pleasant. The finish is lightly bitter with a dab of residual sweetness. Yeast lingers. Medium bodied with the occasional notable watery pocket, smooth overall, with medium prickly carbonation.

Courtesy Dickinsonbeer. Pours a cloudy, murky brown body with a foamy tan head that settles to a thin film. Minimal spotty lacing noted. The aroma shows toasted caramel malts, lightly smoked wood, and mild dark fruits. The flavor seems a bit oxidized, showing some age and a little sourness. Its got a very earthy feel, with alot of toast and breadiness accompanying the dark fruits. Medium bodied with a slightly flat mouthfeel. Definitely showing some age.

Courtesy Dickinsonbeer. Pours a dark caramel brown, with a small off brown head. Smells of alot of dark fruits, maybe a touch of some smoke, and just a hint of some infection due to its age. Usual for this brewery though. The flavor is pretty sweet with the dark fruits being the most dominant character. Just a little bit of that smoke in the taste, finishes pretty clean. The infection wasnt that apparent in the flavor, seems to be holding up pretty good. Just an average beer at best though.

Poured a dark brown with a thin off-white head. Bready herbal aroma, a bit of sourness and some sweetness. Light overall on the taste, some light toasty flavors with a hint of spice. Different.

Poured a mury chestnut brown. Aroma is toasted, with a biscuity quality, touch of smokiness. Flavor is a touch sweet, but does have a nice toasted component that cuts the malty sweetness nicely.
