kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 3, 2007 25 oz bottle, via Zathrus13. Another Heavyweight gusher when I popped this guy open. Poured a slightly murkey (even on first pour) chestnut brown body under a large foamy beige head that left sheets of lacing. It finally settled at a thin film. Nose is very thickly malty with a fairly grainy earthy undertone. Caramel, toffee, light alcohol, and some dark brown sugar. Flavor is heavy on the sweet caramel malt with a nice warming toffee finish. Minimal alcohol flavor, very slight oxidation, and I’m pretty sure a dry bretty funkiness on the finish. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with way too much fizzy foaming carbonation. Very dry on the finish which also makes me think that there’s a brett infection. Yet another very odd beer from Heavyweight. The more this warmed, the more the brett emerged and actually made it better though. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Feb 2, 2007 Sampled from a bottle shared by beeryum on 7/2/06: Pours a dark copper orange with a frothy well-lacing tan head. Sweet toasty caramel malty aroma has nice authenticity and good German lager yeasty character. Body starts with a sweet authentic caramel maltiness and nice, mild noble hoppiness toward a slightly drier, mildly warming German yeasty finish. A very nice doppelbock. boboski (1095), Alabama, USA Jan 6, 2007 Updated: Mar 25, 2007Copper pour with a diminishing cream colored head, tall at first but quickly leaving behind lacing that reminds of cobwebs in the trees. The aroma is huge caramel malt that is a little funky, a little medicinal, along with candied fruits, caramelized brown sugar and the slightest of hops. Alcohol is masterfully disguised in this rendition. Malts penetrate first in the flavor, mostly caramel ,with lesser chocolate on the back end. Also tastes of more brown sugar and sweet, sweet fruits. Palate was a little thinner than I’d hoped, but enjoyment was not sacrificed at it’s expense. Finished long and quite sweet, no balancing hoppiness detected, but I wouldn’t have expected that from Heavyweight, within this style, anyway. Good goat brew. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 8, 2006 Draft at DRE event. Deep copper orangy pour, with minimal head. Aroma of caramel malt, fruit, some brown sugar. Tastes of caramel malt, borwn sugar, some apricotty maibocky notes. hopdog (5527), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 6, 2006 On tap. Poured a deep orange, almost brown, color with a very small sized off white head. Aromas and tastes of toffee, some dark fruits, caramel and I got some nuttiness out of it. Very malty. MullMan (1080), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Jul 29, 2006 on tap at the Heavyweight final open house, July 2nd. cloudy rusty golden color, malt syrup aroma. flavor is bitter hoppy but also malty & vinuous. almost like a barley wine! decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Jul 5, 2006 Thanks to whoever brought this beer to kp’s Cellar Party. My first NJ beer. An aroma of sweet fruit and a light yeast aroma. A slightly sweet flavor with just a hint of alcohol in the flavor. The palate was just a tad watery but overall a good pour.
