Poured a hazy amber color with a medium sized, light tan head that left creamy, nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, toasted dough, peat smoked malts, with some roast, and faint citrus fruits. Taste of caramel and roast, peat, nuts, dried fruits, and light alcohol.

(750 ml bottle via trade with <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=1 target=blank>jimmack , thanks Jim!) This pours a very deep burnt orange with a small fizzy biege head that recedes to a thin layer. Aroma is pretty much syrupy sweetness with maybe a little vanilla...hmmm...so far not too doppel-like...Not much lacing. Mouthfeel pretty prickly, kind of syrupy, actually pretty light. Flavor: Not much going on for depth, basically just sweet and kind of sticky with a little vanilla. Gotta have more depth than this for a doppelbock. Alcohol not well-hidden. Good for a sweet and sticky buzz.

Pours dark copper with a thin tan head. Good looking color. Molasses, caramel, raisin, white wine and fruits were hinted in the aroma. Alcoholic taste with caramel and molasses in the taste. This was a little bitter because of the alcohol but still a good effort.

Bottle pours a bit too overcarbed and harsh mouthfeel due to the high carbonation, I think I remember the tap version to have less carbonation and was smoother. Anyway, the pour is a nice moslty clear deep amber and a thick tan head, which fades into a thin film. Aroma is of dark thick sweet malts, slightly fruity, bready and some light yeast notes. Lots of malt in the flavor, but some of that high carbonation kinda hides some of that sweet caramel/mollasses smooth malt character. Finish is ok, slightly smooth, and a bit drier than expeced.

-750ml bottle-pours a big tan head with dark copper color. Aroma is sweet, dark malt, dark fruit, smokey/toasty. Taste follows along with alcohol. Nicely done big beer, though not my style.

Pours a muddy brown with an initial large frothy off-white head which settles to a smaller ring and left very nice lace in it’s wake. The nose displays ripened apricot, banana, pear, and plum fruit esters along with rich caramel and pumpernickel bready malts, cardamom seed, smoked beachwood, some Belgian and Germanic yeast esters and moderate alcoholic vapors. The taste starts quite fruity and sweet but is quickly balanced by a acidic and mild bitter quality. A dose of peppery and pungent spices towards the finish added depth along with a quick dash of smoked peat. Like many of the raters before me, I get a lot of Weizen character with this brew but that is not is a bad IMO. The feel is part sharp and livery and part chalky and wheaty, the alcohol is a moderate and you know it is there. A solid brew even if not a standard dobblebock. Mikey Likey!

Dark blonde color. Fresh doughy yeast smell (like weizen yeast, vanilla, banana, clove, other fruits.) Nothing else in the nose that would resemble a traditional Doppelbock, to me. Flavor is yeast led, with clove leading the pack, as well as hints banana and fruits. Peat, smoke, caramel, raisins...WHAT?!?! Am I having the same beer? What the hell is this? It’s definately not a doppelbock.

2005 bottle from my buddy Nick (Crosling). It’s interesting, looking at the descriptions of the beer’s color that some say clear copper, some say amber-caramel, others dark chestnut brown. I’d like to further add to the disagreement by calling it blonde (though with a strawberry tinge to it). As in a blonde doppelbock, which I think this is. The cap got jarred a bit in transit, so to prevent any further C02 loss, I opened it only 24 hours after receiving it. Needless to say, it was completely hazy from start to finish. The head is a light straw-beige, creamy and large at first, but eventually receding all the way to a ring and light cover, but never disappears altogether. Quite a bit of lacing as well. The aroma begins with a subtle flowers and herbs note, mixing in delicate light grains, bits of honey and dough, and growing spicier with fresh noble hops as it warms. Fresh yeast is all over the place, doughy and dry and almost a Belgian-like quality to it. Very clean though, is the yeast, and hardly any of the usual doppelbock suspects are present. No melanoidins, breadiness or deep roast. In fact, I just get toasted grains and light caramel as the strongest of notes. The flavor begins with a vanilla cream, cake icing and rich, toasty grains. Fruitiness comes from a light yellow raisin-like note, and there is plenty more dough, dry baguette notes and light white pepper. I was left in the dark as to the alcohol content of this one, not finding any mention of it in the flavor or aroma. Carbonation is exquisitely tight, with finely bubbled carbonation. Texture is pure unfiltered goodness, smooth and substantial, very creamy. I’d love to see Heavyweight make this a year-round and I too hope to get more of this unique and wonderfully crafted beer.
