Pours dark golden with no head. Smoke dominates up front, in a good way, some sweet malt in the background. Flavor much the same, smoke up front, with a lingering sweet malt aftertaste. First smoke beer, that I could really enjoy. shadey (1500), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 5, 2005 Cloudy red color with very little head. Aroma is deeply smoked with plenty of peat. Very powerful and attractive aroma. Full bodied like a bock should be. The flavor is actually quite tangy up front with the deep smoked peat coming in strong at the finish. A very powerful beer. Earthy and rich. Dogbrick (2855), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 31, 2005 Thanks to Dorwart for the trade. Lightly cloudy golden yellow color with a medium thin white head that dissipated pretty quickly. Thin lacing. Smoky malt aroma. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Lots of smoke flavor with malt and a bit of fruit in the background. The finish is smooth and malty with some spices peeking through. Very unique beer that is hard to categorize and easy to enjoy. jah noth (1017), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Oct 28, 2005 Ahhhh, sweet bacon. Aroma of honey malt. Cloudy light brown in color with a litle head. Sryupy sweet flavor with the lots of smoky bacon flavor. Some pears and apples. An interesting beer, but not that appealing. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Oct 10, 2005 12oz bottle. Pours a clear honey-amber body under a white head. Wood smoked plale malt aroma with caramel and fish notes. The elements of the flavor smoothly flow from a macintosh apple to lightly smoked wheat bread and crystal malt with a bock twang and spicy hops in back. Dry, smokey-sweet finish. Too-strong carbonation hurts the palate. Elegant smokiness in this one, it works very well with the bock flavors. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 5, 2005 12 oz bottle via trade with Lou18 - Pours amber with a little offwhite head. Some big black chunks floating around in there too keeps this one from being better than a 3 in appearance.. Aroma is bacon, and yeast. Flavor is bacon, malts, a bit of raisin and some roasted malts. Palate is medium bodied and quite smooth for a smoked beer. A little sour on the aftertaste. Otherwise this is a very solid beer. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 27, 2005 Strong smoked malt aroma with bready and floral notes and plenty of plum and raisin fruity esters. Opaque amber-brown with decent, fine-bubbled, uniform, cream coloured head that recedes to lasting cover with some lacing. Sour, tart plums and raisins meld with assetive campfire like smokiness with bready character and the barest whisper of roasted malts in the lightly bitter finish. Medium-full body with moderate carbonation that is gently effervescent on the tongue. Tulip glass. Allowed to warm from fridge temp. Bottle (Half Time, Sep-05).
