Color is a nice hazy amber. Aroma is OK, I still haven’t gotten the hang of identifying a lot of specifics. Taste is smokey/malty with a mild to low carbonation. Good beer, interesting, just not my style. Dickinsonbeer (3502), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 17, 2005 Updated: May 6, 2007Pours a deep amber with a minimal head. Aroma is initially smoke then fades to let in nice amounts of smooth caramel malts. Flavor is balanced between smoke and sweet malts and just a hint of bitterness in the end. As it warmed the smokiness turned a little medicinal but otherwise it was pretty good. More of a cigar smokiness than a woody smoke that you get from Aecht. A worthwhile try but cant compare to anything from Aecht Schlenkerla. hopdog (5617), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

Aromas of smoke, light fruits and some citrus. Tastes of fruits, smoke, spices and caramel. Very fizzy body. JFURYCAT (792), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 14, 2005 This came in a bottle fresh from the brewery and it had a smoky aroma and taste that I never sensed before in a beer. I was thinking that if hemlock wasn’t poisonous this is what it would taste like. I always sample my wife’s opinion as women are said to have better taste buds and she said "woody." This beer is unique, another Heavyweight work of art. I enjoyed it even though I find it rough to want a second sampling of it. The mouthfeel was pretty good but the flavor is definately an acquired taste to me. I like smoky lagers and to balance things out, I drank a Barley Creek Black Widow lager right after to compare and contrast. Unique! jasonp (1513), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 3, 2005 Clear amber with a medium off-white head. Aroma has a touch of floral hops plus smoked malt and grains. Taste is pretty sweet; notes of caramel, toasty and smoked malts, grain, moderate hoppage and saltyness. Medium body with moderate carbonation. No lacing, ok head retention. Solid stuff. TheBeerGod (3173), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 21, 2005 Bottle. Copper with a small fizzy tan head. Nose is lightly smoked malts, light processed meats, hints of tobacco and sweet malts. Taste is smoky and fruity. Ripe fruits(melon) with smoked BBQ brisquet, light wood notes, sweet malts, and blurred caramel. Body is moderate with fizzy nitro like carbonation feel. Finish is smoky malts, light woody notes, and ripe fruits. Some sugary sweet parts to this. Pretty good! hershiser2 (923), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Mar 19, 2005 Burnt orange color with a small head. Smell: odd, nothing like I’ve smelled before. Slightly smoky, slightly applish, slightly tobacco. Taste is mainly bitter, lightly smoked, and has an odd aftertatse that I can’t place. Hmm... not a huge fan of this, but it’s not bad. guzzler67 (1288), Hanover, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 17, 2005 Small, dense off white head with light lacing. Hazy, copper appearance. Smoky, earthy aroma; stronger from the battle than on tap. Malty, leathery flavor with some caramel sweetness on the back taste buds. Well carbonated with the alcohol kicking the finish up a notch.
