off white head. Nice malty aroma with some smokiness in the background. The smoke comes out more in the flavor. Not overpowering, but definitely makes it’s presence known. Lots of malt flavor and finishes crisp and clean. I am definitely not a fan of smoked beers but I enjoyed this one. MAP (1089), Lakewood, Ohio, USA

This just makes me think of some good smoked meats, and I like that. This has a good malty flavor mingling with the up front and a backside of candy sugar. Palate is smooth, not as rough as one might expect from a smoked beer, but smooth and tasty. cfranz (261), Acton, Massachusetts, USA

The last beer I had in the sample pack (a gruit) really underwhelmed me. But this was right up my alley. I am a fan of Lapsam Souchang tea (smoked chinese tea). I also indulge in some single malts when I get a bump in my allowance. So a smoky beer really does it for me. I could drink this all night. I would get rid of the goat with a doobie, though. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 16, 2005 Golden brown color, thick, gushing white head, tight bubbles in the beer. Has a definite smokey undertone, reminds me of a smokey Belgium Tripel. Very carbonated. Go figure. BrockLanders (750), Panama City, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 10, 2005 Pours a nice hazy amber with a modest head. Wow, initial nose gives a beautiful smoked ham/bacon aroma. Very much in your face. Flavor is equally smoky, woody, and sweet, almost candyish upfront, but with strong woody/smoky flavors. The finish is dry with some alcohol, and a lingering bitterness. I’m not personally high on the smoked beers, but this was nice. Thanks Cornboy! DrGonzo (625), Somerville, Massachusetts, USA

Aroma of fruits, burning tobacco, malt. Unlike some other beers in this category, this brew is no holds barred smoked. Strong lager base, burning embers, sweet chewy tobacco cookies. Potent. A solid smoked lager. MartinT (5055), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Crème de caramel is suggested amidst the oranges, still far behind the smokiness. Never overpowering, just cleanly presented.
The Festivities: Potable earthy and woody smokiness lingers comfortably in the luxurious and inherently quaffable mouthfeel. Caramel beads surround oranges and herbal hops, as a light bitterness of mixed origin surfaces. This just gets better and better every time I have some.
Transcendence: Warm dawn sunrays hurt the eyes even when seen through the withering flames of a campfire. But they sure are reminiscent of a wildly pleasant eve. Prostman (1077), Pennsylvania, USA
