| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 9, 2004 Cloudy light brown from massive yeast from a massive amount of yeast with a full compact head. The Aroma is definately somkey and roasted, as well as a little peppery and a bit meaty. The taste is very smokey, especially as it settles on the toungue. There is a sweetness that comes in after the smoke flavor starts to subside. This is a very interestering and smooth beer. The finish is smokey, but not overpowering other flavors. 5000 (2600), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 21, 2004 Bottle pours reddish caramel, medium foamy off-white head, with spotty lacing.   Smoked aroma, almost like smoked meat.   No ashtray in this one, only smoked goods.   Nice malty backbone with a healthy dose of smoke.   Slightly sweet, a bit bitter up front but it smoothes out.   Good body and mouthfeel.   Finishes smokey, malty, and slightly sweet.   I think this one might be a bit better if the smoke didn’t overwhelm the bock qualities of this beer.   Still, not bad tho.   Thanks goes out to Eyedrinkale for the trade!

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 21, 2004 Bottle pours a light orange amber with a small white head. No real lacing. Aroma is a smoked bacon flavor. Seriously...it smells like BACON. Not sure if beer is suposed to smell like this. But its good. Flavors are smokey and meaty. That the best I can describe it. Just not sure a beer should taste like that. Smoked Salmon. Delicious but wierd.

Smell isn’t quite smoky really more musty smelling, but musty warmed up like a wet blanket left in the sun all day. poured great with a HUGE head. This head could rival any beer I’ve ever seen. Dark toffee color. Smokiness kicks in when you taste it. Tastes like deep pit BBQ smells. This isn’t my kind of flavor at all, but you can taste the quality in the beer. nice bite on the tongue. The flavor throws me off. not a taste I’ll ever love, but was an interesting diversion. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 28, 2004 2004 bottle from Eyedrinkale. Pours a deep bronze, auburn and golden color, hazy and bottle conditioned apparently. Huge white head. Aroma of charred paper, smoked salmon, burnt grease, light spiciness from the yeast and a firm sweet malt. Flavor is superbly smokey at the start, with a nice even applewood smoked bacon. Immediately following this are some crisp moderately bitter hops. Wow, that caught me by surprise, I didnt smell any hops. Adds a nice layer and then we get the sweet honey and nut malt. Caramel and dough mix together with the smoke to create a full flavor. Body is medium-full. If you think the smoke dominates this one, you’d be outraged at Aecht Schlenkerla. In my opinion, the smoke does not dominate this one at all. I like to taste the smoke up front and throughout, which you can, but there is ample sweet malt to balance it and a moderate dose of alcohol on the finish. The alcohol is probably a bit overdone, and the malt gets quite sweet and strong as this has warmed, but all in all, this is very well-made. Strikes a balance somewhere between Spezial Rauchbier Lager, Christoffel Blonde and St Georgenbrau Kellerbier. 11026 (1779), Alabama, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Oct 26, 2004 Bottle. Pours with an eruptive off-white head. Hazy orangish color. Good lacing. After the beer settles down there is a nice smokey aroma, to me like smoked almonds. Crisp, a little dry. Smoke flavor dominates the flavor. It is not overpowering but very present. Carbonation is just overactive for my tastes. This is like a smoked tripple. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 24, 2004 This brew is a true sight to see, for as the crown is cracked and pressure is popped, smoke furiously spews from the bottle, bubbles oozing from the neck. Cautiously, grinning with anticipation from such a momentous debut, we pour...appearance is a hazy, dark amber hue, with a head supremely fizzy at first, soon to settle into a tight white collar.
Aroma: heady, fruity, and soon overcome by the smoke factor...oh, yeah, it’s all over the place now, leaving little in it’s wake but the essence of smoked salmon.
Big, buzzing carbonation greets the tongue, and the smoke flavor follows and soon takes dominion of the senses. Body is rather light, and texture is, well, fully engulfed by smoke. The substance of the bock is well-sustained, if on the flimsy side, though the flavor is fully overtaken by the smoke. It’s all you taste here, really.
A very interesting beer, and wholly unique. Big points for the novelty of the thing, but I can’t see myself indulging in more than one on a lark.
