This was a good RAUCHBIER like brew. The heavy alcohol is there but not over powering as is the smoke. I enjoyed this, which I can’t always say about heavywieght and smoke beers. adambomb (16), USA

After loving the first two, I wasn’t quite ready for this one. Luckilly I had the glass ready because the head started working its way out of the bottle instantly. I got about half of it poured into the glass (all foam) After a few minutes I got the rest in the glass and I was quite impressed by it’s color. The flavor reminds me of smoked pork mabey a brisket, eating it right out of the smoker... too much damn smoke for me. If this is the way most smoked lagers are, then I guess this is just not my thing. Rastacouere (5561), Montréal, Quebec, Canada

Gigantic sized off-white head, all the bubbles are perfectly shaped and identical. Gentle malt aroma, smoky, woody, soapy. Juicy peach and orange flavors fit a well defined candyish? wood character. 7% you’ve got to be kidding.. This could easily be from Bamberg. Great balance. Medium body, perhaps a bit too effervescent. Quite dry in the finish, lightly bitter in a mineralic kind of way that seems to be closing to something metallic when cold. Let it warm to take advantage of a broader aromas range. jsquire (2113), St. Marys, Ohio, USA

The first pour was all foam, and it took way too long to get the beer into the glass. It eventually became a foamy beige head. Smokey malt nose. Nice balance of caramel sweetness and dark fruits with a subtle woody smokiness. Very pleasant use of smoke without the greasy meat problem some smoked beers have. Thanks to willblake for this very tastey beer. Jine (896), Nutley, New Jersey, USA

A little of the bacon-y taste I like, but not too much, which I think helped in a beer this strong. Heavyweight is local (for me) and proving to be a very good brewery Cornboy (417), Eastampton, New Jersey, USA

Very much like a rauchbeer, but one thing I really enjoyed about this is the nice malt backbone to it. Most rauchbeers are very dry and pure smoke, this one was very balanced. Great stuff! | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 10, 2004 Bought this at Half Time in Poughkeepsie. Pours dark golden with John Holmesian white head. Aroma of malt, hopcit, slight fruit. Tastes malty, with hops, citrus, and a noticeable rauchy quality ( I noticed this before I read the description by the way). Medium palate, with a slightly dry finish. I give this one a bonus 1/10th for degree of difficulty, just like that Chinese Olympic tandem diver that could put both ankles behind her ears while flipping...because I’ve never had a golden rauchbier before.... footbalm (1219), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
