Commercial Description:
Cinderbock is a bock-style beer brewed with German smoked and munich malts. It's fermented with a classic Bavarian lager yeast and cold-conditioned for five weeks. The result is a malty, clean tasting lager laced with smoke and intrigue.

Cloudy golden/yellow with fine white head that almost overflowed. Dead campfire, and tabacco aromas. Creamy mouthfeel with long lucious finish. Some smoke notes, with a light hop flavor on the finish. Awesome malt quality with a fresh tobacco quality. Wow, what a surprise, this is one fine beer.

08.24.04 12oz bottle. Another brew that I’ve had many times but neglected to take notes on. The beer pours a hazy clouded sunrise gold with a massive sudsy head that lasts and clings and sizzles with excitement. Aromas of smokey goodness surround me from the moment I open the bottle, moreso intensified as the head gets to work. The first thought I ever had about this beer was that it smelled like a salami sandwich. Many, many cinderbocks later (not today, over some time), I still think that. Other aromatic nuances include an onion-breadiness that makes me a bit hungery. The flavor is dominated by smoke and carried across the palate by a soft effervescence and an oily slickness. Lots of lip smacking maltiness. A late spiciness comes in toward the end and offers a dry finish that seems almost to cleanse the palate and bring the experience together. Well done, rather interesting take on this German style. Heavyweight is a great brewery.

The beer had a lovely hazy golden yellow color and a very lively carbonation, which formed a huge creamy beige head that towered way outside the Pilsner glass, and tested my patience for a long time, as I could not fit the 12 oz. of fluid in there. The appearance is a lot lighter than most regular Dopplebocks and is a lot closer to a Maibock or a Weizenbock. The aroma is a mix of honeysuckle, apples, and pears behind a curtain of smoke. The first flavor that comes across my tongue is the hugely smoked malt. As I let the beer lay around my tongue, bananas, lemon, and green apples briefly show up until being swept aside by the black pepper aftertaste and a wave of hop bitterness. The mouthfeel is sticky and slick like a Dopplebock should be. Overall I feel that this beer is very interesting, but is a bit too one dimensional to rank among the best of the best. I am glad that I did get to try it though, and for that many thanks are due to Lupe and his BIF 10 package.

This well carbonated brew jumps to a full head of foam as soon as it’s poured. No coaxing necessary. Light amber color with a touch of haze. The aroma is of light malt, and just a touch of smoke. The flavor is sweet, with a smoky bitterness that follows through to the finish. Lacks true Bock character.

Light amber color with big tan had. VERY carbonated. The aroma is dominated by smoke with some malt. The flavor starts out with smoke, but rounds out nicely with malt sweetness and a clean lager character. A very good effort at a Bamberg-style beer.

Another interesting beer by Heavyweight. A toasty smoked aroma in the nose, which is deceiving from the cloudy amber look of the beer.Very carbonated. Beer flavor is very smoked (It reminds me of Oscar Meyer smoked little weiners) with sweetness as the beer warms and the smokiness wears off. This would be great by the campfire.

Large tan head, fair retention and lace. Hazy, dark copper hue. Sweet malt, lightly smokey nose.Medium body, spritzy. Medium sweet malt flavors with plenty of smoke going on, moreso as it warms. A mild saltyness also. Dry, smokey finish.

Seriously cool - I’m very pleased with this beer as just about the only American beer I’ve had to attempt to take on Schlenkerla rauchbier urbock -not to mention it compares favorably. It was a foamer and that worried me, but I detected no signs of bacteria. Very cloudy amber color, lots of suspended yeast. Campfire/wood smoke and smoked meat is predominant, layers of melanoidiny munich malts provide a caramelly cookieish base. Very good stuff.
