Strange, but quite pleasant as long as in moderate amounts, I'd guess. Feels like the hops are masked by the smoke. haukur (683), Reykjavik, Iceland
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 24, 2004 pulled a huge head. Colour is dark golden pilsner colour. Aroma is SMOKED, very smoked, infact, you cant smell anything but smoked aroma from this. Reminds me of smoked meat. The taste is also very smoked, a little hoppy, but in whole everything is just smoked malts. It´s not a bad brew, it´s just not for me. This aroma and taste is something everybody over here knows and if this would to get imported someday, it would sell like crazy over the winter time jeffc666 (1891), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 20, 2004 Hugely carbonated. Hazy gold body topped by a massive fomay off-white head that unable to sustain itself collapses quickly. The aroma is nice and meaty, like a rauchbier shoule be. Sweet Munich malt is detectable behind the smoke. The flavor is a nice mix of smoke and malts. The hops are surprsingly prevelant but somehow manage to mix in with the other flavors to create a pleasing whole. The body is medium. Aftertast is a lingering smokeiness. Very nice beer. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 14, 2004 Hazy peachy gold, huge head - had to pour this one in stages, good lacing. Very smokey - started off mild, but once my nose got hold of that smell, it seemed to intensify. Sweet malts with firey smoke, charred wood - the hops complement this nicely. Ends with charcoal on the outer edges of the tongue and sticky sweet at the back. Great stuff, but could get too sweet for me. beerluvindave (194), Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, USA

I almost feel guilty rating this beer... it was the first beer I drank after having given up beer entirely for Lent! Great brew nonetheless. Spiesy (2333), Global Citizen, Greater London, England
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 27, 2004 Bottled. Hazy orange colour with a massive white, over conditioned head. Super smoked bacon aroma. Juice malt flavour enthusiastically supported by smoked flavours. Crisp and dry finishing. scraff (1942), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 25, 2004 Hazy orange, rocky white head. Smokey, beefy, earthy, with a bit of caramel sweetness. Add a touch of citric hops to keep it well balanced and there you have it. This goes for aroma and flavor. Medium to full bodied, fizzy carbonation. Could drink this anytime I fire up the grill. Great stuff! blank (998), Washington, Washington DC, USA
