Aroma is sour, like a flemish sour ale, and some liquid smoke. Flavor is very sour, and smokey, overpowering. harmfuldrunk (288), New Jersey, USA

Having poured a very brownish dark color, the smokey aroma is almost overpowering, yet mouth watering at the same time. Flavor, unsurprisingly, is dominated by a smokey maltiness, though not much complexity is found here. Finish is long and, you guessed it, smokey. Tasty, yet one-dimensional. Sweet beech smokiness, well-developed caramel malt, toast and honey. Very clean maltiness. Flavour is beautiful, deep soft smoke overlying a bready toasty malt base. Lingering interplay of smoke and bread through the finish. Some light yeastiness in the finish as well. Really nice rauchbier and much better than I gave it credit for the first time around. Doesn’t taste anywhere close to 7%.
Bottle at Spuyten Duyvil shared with dickinsonbeer and beastiefan2k. Hazy orange beer, thin white head. Strong smoky aroma, slightly soapy. Nice sweet maltiness dancing around behind all of the smoke. Flavour is a bit fruity with orange peel and toast plus the aforementioned smoke. Decently hopped with some nice noble character coming through. As it warms the body thins quite a bit. It’s decent, but it ain’t no Heller-Trum either.

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 6, 2006 This beer pours maroon and leaves a thin white lace. The nose is spectacular, so smokey just the right amount of smoke and sweetness in the nose. The body is clean, clear, with a small amount of yeast settled in the bottom of the glass. The taste starts on the palate smooth, def malty up front by design smoke infused bock. The taste on the palate then moves to a small lemon tartness on the palate, to a smoke presence that reminds me of eating some smoked meats almost savory funny what the nose can tell the tastebuds, then it finishes sweet with some caramel, toffee, and the smokiness you get from roasted nuts. Very complex and a pleasure to drink.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 2, 2006 Updated: Feb 6, 2006Fair domestic example of rauchbier, or "smoked beer". I applaud Heavy Weight for attempting the style, but would have liked more smoke character in aroma and flavor. Cinderbock pours to a deep golden to light amber color, with a tight, white head that fades, and a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose is fragrant with aromas of light smoke, soot, and nutty malt. The palate is firm, with some nutty and toasty malt flavor paired with some smoky and sooty flavor. Cinderbock finishes with more toasted malt , smoke and sooty flavor up front, then ends with a dry, smoky flavor that lingers. Nice example of the style, but clearly a step or two below German versions. Would match well with artisan cheeses, wild game, German fare, and BBQ.
