Commercial Description:
The Gotland, or Viking beer has been extinct for some time... or has it? The ingredients: Smoked, pale, rye, wheat, and sour malts. Juniper, German hops, Blessed Thistle, Bog Myrtle, bread yeast, and birch bark... all aged in whisky wood. We bet you never tasted anything quite like it.

Thanks Jason! The beer pours to a hazy orange body with visible carbonation. The aroma is very interesting. Rauchmalt was in the forefront. Follow that with earthy Belgian yeasts, juniper, and subtle vinegar. The flavors are much like the aroma with that dominating rauchmalt and tart juniper. Very interesting. Some flavors I can’t describe that I can only think is the other exotic ingredients. The palate is lightly tart, medium bodied. Delicious and interesting. A nice beer that I liked a lot. Glad to have tried it and wouldn’t mind getting more...

Pours a hazy red orange color with no head. Aroma is smoky, spicy, rye, peaty, and a hint of wood. Flavor is sweet honey, peaty, lemon, and a hint of alcohol.

Tap at Fette Sau, labelled Gotlandsdricke. Deep honey coloured bright golden beer. Aroma is lightly smoked and honeyish with a salty bit of juniper character in the back. Husky, rye-like malt character, sweet aroma, light cotton candy sweetness on the back. The flavour is herbal and lightly peppery with minty/menthol notes throughout. Fruity/apple cider flavour on the back with a lingering sweetness and soft herbal hoppiness. Completly unlike anything I’ve ever had. Lovely brew.

Bottle. (thx to papsoe) Clear, golden, with a minimal off-white head. A bit smoked, lightly sour and some sweetness in the nose. Sweetness, some dried fruits, caramel and a wee hint of acidity in the flavor. Medium body with a little astringent feeling. Strange beer, drinkable though. Not really sure that they brewed what they intended... (070510)

Incredibly clear pour, as this beer has been sitting, waiting patiently, for about three months... A bit of band aid aroma, with definite cleaning solution elements; pine, herbal. Sourish curling of the nostril-hairs begins right away. Wow, the flavor is weird. Sweet and sour, watery, medicinal (but in a good way). Only the palate is a bit of problem here. Thin, no real head. Smoked malt presence is clear, so is a juniper-like spice. Bottle from eclectic back in March - thanks, Kevin.

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of pineypower. Pours a hazy, amber golden with a basically absent head. Odd chemical or herbal AND smoked aroma. Medium body, completely flat with herbal accents, acidic and smoked. I detect ginger and perhaps some licorice and citrus. Very odd and flawed and pointing in all directions. But interesting at least. 100507
