PilsnerPeter (2598), Flushing, New York, USA Aug 3, 2009 Bottle at BCTC 2009: Hazy golden with a white film of head. Spicy aroma- notes of lavender, mint leaf, thyme, complex but slightly oxidized with a papery note. Spicy flavor as well with notes of mint leaf and thyme. Light honeyish herbal sweetness in the background. Very interesting but past it’s prime with apparent oxidation. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Aug 11, 2007 Tap at Spuyten Duyvil. Very pale golden with a thick white head. Aroma is fantastic with lots of fruity sweetness, light juniper, mint and a touch of apple/pear character. Light wildness on the nose as well. Floral with a soft muskiness as well. Grassy flavour up front that is quickly replaced with light spiciness, rye and juniper berry. Apple/berry fruits with a soft spearmint flavour that creates a soft cooling effect in the mouth. Refreshing tartness. It’s hard to believe that this beer has held up like this for >3 years, but there you have it. Highly quaffable. I really hope that there is another keg of this stashed away somewhere. beastiefan2k (1590), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA Aug 7, 2007 On tap at Spuyten Duyvil, looks like this thing is 3 years old. Poured into a wine glass with a strong, thick head, which turns into a surface covering lacing. Color is a beautiful, thick, dark golden with light orange tints. There is plenty of light radiance absolutely no clarity through the beer. Aroma is strong with tartiness upfront and a tangerine-perfume floralness. Just so cool, its almost brett-esque but fruity and solid a the same time; everything just melds so well together. Taste is a conservative version of the aroma, list perfume and tart but still there. Sooooo damn quaffable and finishes with a light dryness. Slight acidity at the end. I came to have one glass and had to have three as opposed to trying other awesome beers on tap at the time. And if I go back I will have more. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Aug 7, 2007 On tap at Spuyten Duyvil. Very unique and interesting beer. Tart, spicy aroma, birch and floral notes. Juniper berries are apparent. Super drinkable, botanical tasting, kind of like a tart, fermented version of gin. Really really yummy. 11026 (1799), Alabama, USA Sep 24, 2006 Bottle. Light golden colored with a great white head and lacing. Minty aroma, not a lot of evergreen/spruce perhaps due to aging effects. Light bodied. Fruity, minty flavors. Tasty beer if not something completely different. Sad to see these folks fold shop. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Aug 22, 2006 Pours a pale gold with a fizzy white head. I had no idea what to expect with this one, wohlfs brought it out at a tasting, but smelled interesting. The spice kinda kicked you in the junk at first, but maybe it was just from the previous beer before, kinda a cold shock effect. Reminds me a bit of Halls cough drops, herbal coolness and a light honey flavor. Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Dec 28, 2005 Pours a hazy orange with a thin white head. Smells strongly of juniper berries, juniper branches, flowers and pine resin. Taste is slightly spicey with some saltiness and pronounced flavors of juniper, gooseberries and some heather. Finish is very pronounced and strong making this a surprisingly bold beer given its low ABV. Kudos to Heavyweight for doing this one as it exceeds any attempt at a sahti I’ve had before. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Dec 17, 2005 pours an off white head. Hazy gold color. Juniper is in the aroma and taste. Mild taste, interesting.
