Nov 2, 2008 12-oz. Thanks, SuzyGreenberg! This must be a couple years old by now. Fully hazy medium golden amber. A big loose sudsy tan head. Enormous spicy nose, dense earthy finish to it. Crisp but earthy mid-palate; strange juxtaposition of characteristics. Gotta wonder how they pulled that off. Very tasty and satisfying for sure though. Leafy, earthy finish.

Aug 29, 2008 Aww yeah. Slander brought one of these bad boys to a tasting. A year 2001 bottle! Nice, nice. Hella old tasting though. Very sherry aroma, dusty and old but no cardboard. Very nice there. Damp towel flavor, cardboard and musk. Ethyl alcohol unsettles the stomach. Very strong still. Thanks, Steve!!

Oct 19, 2006 Bottle from frumpty. Poured a murky amber with a thin layer of foamy head.
Nose was a fruity mix of pear or some thing like thatmaybe some orange liqueor tossed in. Sweet and syrupy with lot of interesting things going on. Some spiciness here but man the fruit flavors are upfront. Cointreau maybe.

Aug 18, 2006 sample from bottle shared by Frumpty at the final HW open house. rumor was that this bottle late in the day might not have been the grand cru, but Ryan promised me it was... color was cloudy brownish gold. aroma was dried orange peel and syrupy malt. flavor was more barleywine like - buttery bourbon, dried orange peel syrupy malt. nice unique twist on a BSA. Thanks Ryan!

Jul 27, 2006 12 oz thanks to frumpty at HWOH. Pours a medium to light amber , mostly hazy with a nice off white head. Aroma is initially of ginger and other herbal and earthy spices, phenols and yeasty aromas with some mild fruity esters. Light vanilla and clove phenols in there as well. Candy sugar flavor with a hint of alcohol in the end. Moslty light dulll earthy yeast and lightly bready. For being so old, it still has a pretty decent body and oxidation hasnt quite set in yet. Very nice belgian strong.

Jul 12, 2006 12oz. bottle thanks to Frumpty. Hazy amber/orange color with a small off white head. Sweet/tart aroma and flavor of caramel covered apples, honey, yeast and spices. An amazing find by Ryan in an old mixed case of HW beers.
