Commercial Description:
Lunacy is brewed exclusively with Belgian Pilsner malt, Styrian and English Goldings hops and freshly ground coriander. It begins its life with a long patient boil and is cast into the fermenter at 17.5 P. It then undergoes a vigorous fermentation and extended cold conditioning. After bottling, the beer receives an additional 2 week warm rest before it is released. This yields a surprisingly refreshing brew with spicy notes, sweet malt and subtle fruit.

Gently poured from bottle into a tulip glass it formed a foamy, profuse, lasting, off- white head. The body was a hazy golden color and left plenty of lacing. The aroma was yeasty, and carried lightly spicy hops. It sweetened up with some time to warm. The flavor had a soft malty beginning and a sharp hoppy finish. Thanks July Santa!

hard to believe that I’ve never reviewed this for as many times I’ve had it over the years. Appears a hazy deep gold with a fluffy, velvet foamy white that slowly fades out. Lovely scattered lacing left all around the glass. Smell is of citrusy candy, Belgian yeast, bubble gum, phenolic esters, spices highlighted by coriander. Slightly reminescent of Duvel perhaps with a more yeasty profile., which is a good thing by American standards. Taste is of the same aromas with a sugary yeasty blend. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly sweet up front, slick, and rousing along the palate. I’ll miss this one.

Courtesy of SS. Hazy gold with a thick, dense, white head. Nose of musty earthy funk, grainy malt, subtle sweets and spices, clear corriander, crisp hops. Smells like a saison minus the wheat. Taste is surprisingly fragrant and perfumey on top of the above notes, accompanied by light fruits and more spices. Fresh, dry finish. Medium body is more sparkling than balanced, which works for this one. Great summertime session brew. Too bad they aren’t around anymore.

12oz. bottle. Nearly transparent yellow gold with a small white head. Butterscotch, banana, lemon, and coriander in the aroma. Pineapple, doughy sweetness not unlike yellow cake, mild perfumey spiciness in the flavor. Applejuice, heavy coriander in the finish. Mouthfeel is a heavy medium, somewhat dry.

Bottle from Ryan (Frumpty) Thanks! Pours out a yellow color without much of a head. Smell is sweet, fruity, yeasty and spicy. Taste is refreshing, smooth, and not very complex. Interesting beer, not the best. Alcohol isnt detected at all. Not too bad.
