Commercial Description:
Lunacy is brewed exclusively with Belgian Pilsner malt, Styrian and English Goldings hops and freshly ground coriander. It begins its life with a long patient boil and is cast into the fermenter at 17.5 P. It then undergoes a vigorous fermentation and extended cold conditioning. After bottling, the beer receives an additional 2 week warm rest before it is released. This yields a surprisingly refreshing brew with spicy notes, sweet malt and subtle fruit.

Hazy golden appearance with a respectable off-white head. Spicy aroma. Nice and rich on your palate. Flavor isn’t too complex but it is well balanced and overall a very tasty beer.

Another big thank you to willblake for this one! Pours a golden color with a little haze. No head to speak of except for a swirl of bubbles in the middle. There’s not a whole lot going on with this one. A little spice, a little tropical fruit, some yeasty notes. Easy to drink considering it’s relatively strong. Not a lot of carbonation but an enjoyably thick and syrupy mouthfeel seems perfect. Solid but sort of boring.

Bottle. Pours a deeper yellow with a smallish head. Scents of fruit and whisps of malt on the nose. Flavor is sweetened fruit, light and somewhat thin. Not unpleasent, but Heavyweight not making a creative statement on this one.

Bottle, The Foodery in Philadelphia. Pours an obscure orange with a thin to no head. It’s also light on Aroma, smells of just malt and alittle European Hops. Alittle citrus, maybe sort of banana. Taste is all after taste. First nothing much, then breif after swallowing your hit with a spice, and sort of lemon flavor. Again, most of the flavors dont reveal themselves till the finish. I havent had many Belgain Ales, remeber I’m still new at this!, but I wouldnt mind having this again. A nice blend in my opinion, with all the citrus flavor it’s something that you might want on a hot afternoon.

12 oz bottle. Pale yellow/orange beer, thin white head. Pale malt aroma, Belgian sweetness. Honey, orange, some very faint caramel. Sweet toffee, light spice, black pepper, lemon rind and a touch of mintiness. Over-ripe banana, apple, and melon. Some minty flavour and a sort of fatty, plasticy character that I don’t really care for. Underattenuated and sickly sweet. There is some nice stuff in here, but it’s not enough to make up for the rest of it. Really minty herbal hop finish that I really like, but the fatty malts kill it.

Bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, NY late May 2006. Enjoyed mid June 2006. A little sweetness, a little banana in the aroma with some hints of booze and a bit of DMS as well. Some doughy and breadiness present in the aroma as well. Not bad, but not overly quaffable, either. Moderately hazy honey color with a whitish head and fair lacing present. Sweet, sugary start initially, turning more bready and very peppery/spiced. Some ethanolic bitterness then comes through, which is then followed by some mildly dry noble hops. A typical belgian style ale that is slightly thin-bodied. Fair.

Bottle courtesy of kramer17801. Hazy dark golden with minimal head. Fades to film rather quickly. Great aroma, yeasty bread, lemon-orange citrus and spicey floral/earthy character. Flavor is a huge let down compared to aroma. Huge harsh astringent character to it. Mostly hot alcohol and faint spice and nothing else. Body is a tad thin at times. Dissapointing after the aroma was so promising.

Bottle: Poured a slightly hazy dirty yellow ale with a medium foamy head with average retention. Aroma of floral malt is quite powerful and very enjoyable. Taste is very refreshing with a nice dose of floral malt, Belgian yeast and a medium hoppy finish. Definitely not a great beer but a good golden Belgian ale that can be served as a refreshing drink during hot summer days.
