Commercial Description:
Lunacy is brewed exclusively with Belgian Pilsner malt, Styrian and English Goldings hops and freshly ground coriander. It begins its life with a long patient boil and is cast into the fermenter at 17.5 P. It then undergoes a vigorous fermentation and extended cold conditioning. After bottling, the beer receives an additional 2 week warm rest before it is released. This yields a surprisingly refreshing brew with spicy notes, sweet malt and subtle fruit.

This one let me down, as have the handful of other Heavyweight beers I’ve had. Should I really have run them as they are now retiring? Maybe they were better off just retiring? In any event, this one poured a golden color with orange hues, a really whimpy head within style. The lacing was almost non-existent. The aroma was of lemons, pepper, and yeast. The flavor was hard to rate fairly, because of this astringent, poorly attenuated sour / lactic taste in the background for the WHOLE drink. Citrus at the forefront with some bready notes and lots of spiciness, black pepper and coriander most prominent. Some bananas sit behind it all as it warms (55F-ish), which was definitely welcomed. Mouthfeel was moderate to even creamy for the style.

Murky gold body. Frothy and full off-white head. Aroma has belgian barnyard... scents of Brett and some fruity stuff, bread. Like a nicely infected Saison or something from JP. Sour Brett fruity hop start, spiced stale + sweet caramel. Pretty good stuff, but has a dry uninteresting finish (lemon rind?).

On tap at Mahars. Pours mirky yellow with a nice frothy head. Aroma is yeasty and peppery. Flavor is like a spicy cream soda, with good amount of yeast and bready characteristics.

Bottle. Pours a very nice golden tan, with just a touch of red. Has a very small white head and slight carbination bubbles. Aroma is of malts, yeast, hay, with a small citrus touch. Flavor is a little dissapointing. Not much going on. Small hop notes, with some citrus, malts, and a little bit of bitter lemony aftertaste. Not to bad. But not one of my favs so far.

I think I got this from weeare138. took this to fl. to share with flemdawg. from the bottle. poured a cloudy honey, with no head to speak of. aroma the hops jumped right out there first, than got some plums , pears, than the malts kicked in, spicey hints of grass and alcohol. flavor not as robust as I was hoping for the didn’t get as much hops as the aroma gave off, malts and alcohol along with the fruits showed up after it warmed a bit. not to bad.

honey-golden body, white head. aromas of yeast/bread, perfumey flowers, and weeds. fruity (especially citrus), floral, and spicy notes. thin body. interesting to try, but probably won’t really have it again; the beer mostly presented itself just a bunch of flavors that didn’t really mesh well.
