Commercial Description:
Lunacy is brewed exclusively with Belgian Pilsner malt, Styrian and English Goldings hops and freshly ground coriander. It begins its life with a long patient boil and is cast into the fermenter at 17.5 P. It then undergoes a vigorous fermentation and extended cold conditioning. After bottling, the beer receives an additional 2 week warm rest before it is released. This yields a surprisingly refreshing brew with spicy notes, sweet malt and subtle fruit.

A very yeasty and somewhat sweetish concoction. A real soother after a pretty acidic beer beforehand. Abundant foam and creaminess. One of Heavyweight’s best, and one of few not being sourish. Citrus, bready, This would be a mainstay for me if on the local shelves.

Medium orange color - bubbly and clear with a thin head. Aroma of orange peel & coriander. Flavor is sweet, with notes of orange, lemon, bready yeast, & spice. Very smooth and silky on the palate with little acidity or bite. Very quaffable.

This beer pours a golden honey roasted peanut color with tan highlights on the bottom of the glass. It leaves a thin white lace that dissapates quickly. The smell of this beer is sweet like a belgian should be, candied plum, figs, apricots, come to the front of the palate. As I continue on the journey, the sweetness jumps on the palate laced with grape, figs, buttery notes and carmalized fruit. It then hits you with a slight hoppiness then refreshes the palate with carbonation. Very good beer that plays a cat and mouse game with the palate...sweet balanced with the hoppy/carbonation.

Pours a murky golden color with little white head but nice lacing as you drink the brew. Smells of a dull spicyness. A lemon and milky sort of taste. A little flat and dull taste. Finishes with a bitter, back of the throat aftertaste.

1/14/06. Poured out of 12 oz. bottle, obtained as a leftover from hopdog (I think) in San Diego, CA 12/7/04. 2001 Vintage. Pours a hazy, surprisingly near-opaque gold with an orange hue. Clears up as it warms from refrigerator temperature. Soapy white head that diminishes a bit more than I’d like, but the lace above and beneath the surface is quite active, if a little non-uniform and patchy. Aroma is strangely citrusy and mildly sour like lemon meringue, lemon curd, and cheesecake. Not what I was looking for, but I can like it. Flavor is spicy with a biting yeast brightness up front and an underlying sour character. Drops off very swiftly to an uninspiring Belgian golden residue-- hints of melon, underripe citrus, and a dryly leathery twang. Almost like a sweaty leather jacket collar, not far removed from the effect of sucking a wet glove after the snow melts. Shockingly fizzy mouthfeel, a cumulative impression of the carbonation, the coriander, and the yeast presence if my tastes don’t deceive me, feels like I just licked a battery. Body is thin and, along with the significant drop in flavor toward the finish, leaves me slackjawed searching for some heft. I want to try some fresh samples, but I fear the coriander might overwhelm with spiciness in that form. Yeast shot at the bottom of the bottle just adds more of the same and makes it harder to clean my goddamn glass.

Cloudy storm, citrus orange with smallish white crown. Aroma is full of sweet malts, touch of yeast and soft saaz like hops. Body was full, juicy similar to Bock beers followed by Belgian kick of alcohol and spiced yeast. Fruity, alcoholic finish.

Hazy, deep golden body with a foamy, partially persistent white head. Floral and bubble gum aromas. Orange and lime flavors plus sweet honey and fresh grain. Also suggests red apples with a note of leather and some citric tartness. A solid Belgian single with some interesting character.
