Commercial Description:
Lunacy is brewed exclusively with Belgian Pilsner malt, Styrian and English Goldings hops and freshly ground coriander. It begins its life with a long patient boil and is cast into the fermenter at 17.5 P. It then undergoes a vigorous fermentation and extended cold conditioning. After bottling, the beer receives an additional 2 week warm rest before it is released. This yields a surprisingly refreshing brew with spicy notes, sweet malt and subtle fruit.

2001 bottle. Aroma of fruit, malt and alcohol, cloudy apricot, pours a small white head, lots of floaties. Flavour is a malty start, hops follows, then some yeast and citrus. Medium bodied, sweet and tart. Unique.

pours out of the bottle. a murky deep amber hue. very carbonated! a huge, frothy white head that takes some time to calm down. smells of yeast, citrus, sour apples, and especially oranges. tastes of alcohol, yeast, oranges, lemon and cloves. light and smooth mouthfeel. i think there is too much of a spicy note for my taste. but overall a well-balanced interesting ale.

Poured yellowish-orange, it reminded me of orange juice.White head, fast disappating. This beer is very carbonated. Aroma is spicy, coriander or clover I pick up. Also a faint sent of orange peels. As far as flavor I picked up a light lemon flavor, kind of spicy, as it warmed I got a more bitter taste in the back of my tounge. As it warmed I saw sediment at the bottom of my glass. I also picked up the alcohol, much more, expecially in the aftertaste. Mouthful was like drinking cola, while cold. As it warmed, mouthful was lighter. This beer seemed to have two different character whether it was cold or warm. I liked it better cold.

This beer doesn’t taste anything like a Belgian Tripel. It is far too sweet and thick. IMO, the falvor/taste is sickening.

Bright orange color with a thin white spotty head. Aroma is huge and powerful. Coriander and spice. Flavor is rough. Over-spiced and rough. I’m not a fan.

Sampled on the warm side, perhaps at 60°F (15°C). This beer is quite well carbonated; it starts to foam up as soon as I pop the cap. The beer is a brilliantly clear, rich gold color and is topped by a frothy pale tan colored head. The aroma has a sharp fruity character to it up front that is reminiscent of apples and pears with a bit of alcohol thrown into the mix. This is quickly followed by a solid funkiness that seems to be a signature Brett influence (I hadn’t thought that there was Brettanomyces used in this, perhaps it is just the yeast used, but I don’t think so); there are notes of musty metallic earth, and a hint of sharp mushroom character. The aroma is quite an interesting mix of funkiness and fruit, quite nice and I was not expecting the funky notes at all.

The taste is dry and spritzy with a solid fruitiness up front that reminds me of tart plums and pears. The beer finishes with a bit of that funky Brett like mustiness and a touch of sweetness that carries the fruit note through to the end. There is a certain floral / nectar taste here that is a combination of the fruit and a certain astringency that seems to be yeast derived (wild or otherwise). There is some nice sharp spiciness here as well; I detect notes of pepper, a bit of sharp ginger, and a dash of clove. This is quite the tasty, interesting beer, I was not expecting near this amount of complexity and funkiness (though the funkiness is not near the level found in a Lambic, just a level that is a nice

Dissapointing local beligan style microbrew. Sour apple bomb. Hits you strong, sour, lacks a smooth finish. smells a bit like orange pee, if oranges could pee. A mediocre brew from jersey. Haven’t liked one beer from this brewery yet. they’ve all got some nasty kind of hops in them. And this bottle had some mucky lookin crap that didn’t look too natural in the bottom. Had to get help drinking and ended up pouring some down the drain.

12oz bottle via trade with Lou18 - Thanks Lou! Pours very cloudy amber with a short white head. Aroma of yeast, apple, and a bit of bannana. Flavor is very similar. Slightly spicy finish. Fruity and very drinkable. Palate is light and fairly well carbonated. Very drinkable and a nice drinkable beer.
