Commercial Description:
Lunacy is brewed exclusively with Belgian Pilsner malt, Styrian and English Goldings hops and freshly ground coriander. It begins its life with a long patient boil and is cast into the fermenter at 17.5 P. It then undergoes a vigorous fermentation and extended cold conditioning. After bottling, the beer receives an additional 2 week warm rest before it is released. This yields a surprisingly refreshing brew with spicy notes, sweet malt and subtle fruit.

Decent beer. Does not look strong, but tastes a little strong. A pretty good belgian style, but I’ve definitely had better.

Tangerine colored with a small white cream above. An undeniable sour cream scent, with hints of coriander, honey, Belgian malts and yeast and loads of fruit. Strange, sour, musty yeast character...too sweet and doughy.

Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy dark yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (cereal), lightly hoppy (flowers), lightly yeasty (mold, cobwebs), with notes of banana and plastic. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Too sweet, poor aroma, alcohol-heavy...what were they thinking?

I’ve been wanting to try this since I got back from Baltimore in June. It pours a light orange/yellow with a collapsing head a little lacing. Sour bread/cookie dough nose. Spicy and sour flavor with a light body for almost 8% alcohol. Moderately acidic in texture. Nice beer.

Bottled. U.S. Beer 27 of 31 for <a href=http://www.americanbeermonth.com> American Beer Month! Smell is kind of light when opened, just a whiff of fruitiness, hops, and maybe brett. May have gone a little stale. Pours slightly darker than a pils, a bit cloudy, making a nice soda-pop sound as the head fizzes. Immediate taste impression is of a nice champagne, which I enjoy. Alcohol is well in front, followed by a light fruitiness, close to but not quite cherries. There is a kind of yeasty taste, but not the "pizza dough" of some beers, more like it’s kicking into the champagne driness and bitterness. Definitely complex and intrguing.
