Commercial Description:
Lunacy is brewed exclusively with Belgian Pilsner malt, Styrian and English Goldings hops and freshly ground coriander. It begins its life with a long patient boil and is cast into the fermenter at 17.5 P. It then undergoes a vigorous fermentation and extended cold conditioning. After bottling, the beer receives an additional 2 week warm rest before it is released. This yields a surprisingly refreshing brew with spicy notes, sweet malt and subtle fruit.

Very hazy dark straw color with a moderate head. Aroma is 100% phenol - banana esthers out the wazoo coupled with apricots and peaches. Yeast and malt hiding meekly in the background. Flavor is malt dominated - molassas and toffee maybe - with phenols readily apparent. Finish is dry, moderately astringent. OK.

Pours a hazy golden with a minimal head. Aroma is spicy malty and a wierd herbal phenolic almost medicinal aroma. Flavor is malty sweet with a good amont of pheonolics and a bit of DMS but otherwise earthy and spicy and an off aftertaste. The finish is a bit off and harsh. I didnt like this one very much.

Mild cabbage, pastry yeast and earthy, leafy, spicy notes to the sweet, malty aroma. Opaque yellow-gold with thin but lasting light cover of white head. Mild lactic, leafy coriander to the malty flavour with some alcohol in the finish. Definite alcohol warming. Dry, medium-light body with moderate carbonation. Bottle sampled with MartinT, Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere.

The Lure:
Coriander leaves upon a dry soil. Earthy hops sitting in dough.

The Festivities:
Wooden hop bitterness and orange-y fruitiness blend well with the leafiness and milkiness of the coriander. Flavors are somewhat dry in the end, and could be more livelier to my tastes.

Transcendence:
Lunacy is in the eye of the beholder.

The aroma is pretty spicy and I definately detect coriander-it gave me a flashback of Weyerbacher’s Prophecy. It smells like a cross between a belgian ale and a summer ale. I taste hints of vanilla and banana. It is very carbonated and has a dry finish/aftertaste. The aftertaste has a peppery feel. I enjoyed it in the first few sips and I enjoy all the punches it packs in the end. I think my bias here is that I love coriander and as the description notes, they pack it in.
