Commercial Description:
Lunacy is brewed exclusively with Belgian Pilsner malt, Styrian and English Goldings hops and freshly ground coriander. It begins its life with a long patient boil and is cast into the fermenter at 17.5 P. It then undergoes a vigorous fermentation and extended cold conditioning. After bottling, the beer receives an additional 2 week warm rest before it is released. This yields a surprisingly refreshing brew with spicy notes, sweet malt and subtle fruit.

Orange-brown opague color and no real head on it. Spicy smell on it, coriander and clove, along with tangerine, candy sugar and yeast. The palate is on the crisper side, which leaves the mouth lingering with the taste. The viscous drink has a good malty feel to it, indeed somewhat like bread, but with a sweet and spicy side to it.

Secret Santa beer #8, sent by Jason (Dorwart). Murky orange pour, medium-thick off-white head. Aroma of clove and a touch of banana with plenty of bready malts and yeast, somewhat vinous. Rather dry, biscuity flavor, bready with tons of bitter coriander hammering the palate. Perfumey with a hint of apple juice. Pretty complex and the high level of spicing, which I found over-the-top at first, grew on me as I finished the bottle.

Bottle pours golden, slightly hazy, small dishwater like head, spotty lacing, with virtually no carbonation.   Bad bottle?   Yeasty aroma, hints of citrus, pear, and melon.   Slight spicy flavor, melon, with minor apple/pear cider notes.   Body and mouthfeel seem fairly flat and uninteresting.   Thinking this bottle is skunked as it opened without much ppssshhhtttttt.   Finishes rather bland, some spices, but a bit watery.   This one needs a re-rate.   Thanks goes out to goldtwins for the trade!

Cloudy golden orange with some greys and browns, like an Asian pear. Head is bone white and medium thick, not so long lasting. Aroma is majorly spicy apple, pear, clove, wheat, sugars, and yeast. Taste is combonation of sweety and spicy with tart, lemon sour. Makes for an interesting belgian. Very spicy clove and apple juice/cider , big time yeast

Deep golden with a nice white head. Aroma starts with a note of blood oranges, but is quickly consumed by heavy spice notes from coriander. Bit of cherry and drying hops as well. Initial pale malt flavor is consumed by heavy coriander spice, finishing with a surprising tone of tropical fruit and cherries. At the middle temperature ranges, the spice was too much, but when cold and warm other notes came through to balance it out. Nice American take on a Belgian style.

Color’s a cloudy orange, head, fuzzy and white. Aroma is...ooo-wee! Sweet, and sugary, fruity, orange and lemon, but also sharp and tangy, highly concentrated presence. On the tongue, brash, loud, clambers aboard and takes control, filling every orifice, each nook and crevice of the mouth. Hops tingle, malt is thick and tasty, and the body is overall medium. A lively, complex brew. Several steps away from a Duvel, which it appears to emulate, and it’s in the right directio. Later, still, the yeastiness sticks out and asks to be appreciated. A veritable explosion on the tongue occurs and continues, and coalesces into a long, cool finish. A touch of astringency, too, in the middle. At the end, this one tasted more like an attempt at a Tripel, only adding to my confusion. But it was a happy befuddlement, for I enjoyed every drop!

WoW! All I can say is I am not really a fan of the heavy weights. They seem a bit to BIG for me, all the flavors seem to run together and over powering alcohol just kicks my butt!

Thought this was alright when I first started, a partying American Belgian in my mouth. But then the party got to the middle stages, and the guests got pretty offensive. Had to turn away the rest of their friends that tried to crash the door.
