Commercial Description:
Lunacy is brewed exclusively with Belgian Pilsner malt, Styrian and English Goldings hops and freshly ground coriander. It begins its life with a long patient boil and is cast into the fermenter at 17.5 P. It then undergoes a vigorous fermentation and extended cold conditioning. After bottling, the beer receives an additional 2 week warm rest before it is released. This yields a surprisingly refreshing brew with spicy notes, sweet malt and subtle fruit.

From a 12oz Bottle. Pours a transparent, golden dandelion color with a thin layer of quickly dissipating white head. Lots of floral character in the nose, with notes of violet petals, clover, and a mild milky caramel sweetness. Hints of bready yeast, crushed cardamom seed, and honeyed apricots as well. Light bodied, mildly carbonated mouthfeel. Doesn’t have an impressive amount of carbonation, which I initially attributed to the twist off cap, but I’m not picking up any oxidation notes, either. The flavors start out with a moderately sweet, golden candi-sugar body, softened with a touch of banana. A little bit of cardamom spice and an extremely fleeting suggestion of nutty husks jump in before it finishes with some dry, floral hops and herbal coriander. My bottle is clean, and doesn’t contain any of the funk that others have described. Thanks, Steve!

Bottle via JB175. Golden yellow color. Smell of yeast, lemons, clove, ginger, honey, malt, orange and pepper. Taste of yeast, clove, malt, honey, bananas, lemon zest, sugar and ginger. Tart but very enjoyable. Had a lot of carbonation.

Poured a hazy gold color with an off-white head. The aroma was malty with a fair amount of fruity esters. The malty flavor had mild yeasty esters and a very spicy finish. Mildly bitter finish and dry.

12oz as a bonus from MaxxDaddy - thanks!! This has held up very nicely, a crisp golden ale with a pleasant spice profile (pepper and clove) and a nice fruity finish, like pears and a bit of honey. Wish Heavyweight was still rocking.

Not really sure when this bottle is from. No date, and Heavyweight has been closed for awhile now. I just happened upon a four pack of this at Crown Liquors in Wanaque. Pours very hazy straw golden. Strong aroma of apple cider, alcohol, and some peppery spice. Big slightly acidic apple flavor, with a light spice, a bit of alcohol, and some lemon grass notes. Palate is medium, lots of fruity acidity, and a hint of white pepper spiciness. Decent, but a bit too fruity and acidic for my taste. Certainly glad I got to try another brew from Heavyweight though.

Courtesy boboski. Pours a cloudy gold with a small white head. Smells of some nice sweet spices, apple, and other citrus fruits. The taste is pretty big apple, with a noticeable alcohol character to it. Some Belgian candy sugar and other spices round out the flavors. Has a nice little bite to it. Big fruity aftertaste, a little bit bitter, but not a whole lot. Decent.
