Commercial Description:
Lunacy is brewed exclusively with Belgian Pilsner malt, Styrian and English Goldings hops and freshly ground coriander. It begins its life with a long patient boil and is cast into the fermenter at 17.5 P. It then undergoes a vigorous fermentation and extended cold conditioning. After bottling, the beer receives an additional 2 week warm rest before it is released. This yields a surprisingly refreshing brew with spicy notes, sweet malt and subtle fruit.

Bottle shared with and courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a cloudy yellow-orange with an average size fizzy white head. Slightly sour aroma of lots of lemon, yeast and spices along with some sugary sweetness and fruit -- just alright. Flavour’s yeasty, lemony and spicy and with a bitter slightly boozy finish. Medium bodied. Nothing really wrong with this, it’s well made, it just didn’t do much for me.

Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy, my bottle via trade with zathrus13. Cloudy yellow-orange with an average white creamy-fizzy head. Plenty of funky yeast and spice in the aroma, sour lemon, mild sweet tree fruit malt - a bit like a thick saison. Taste is simpler - a distillation of the aromas, slightly tart very malty with a bitter yeast/spice finish. Fairly thick body, not much carbonation, very funky. Nice, not great.

Pours a hazy orange golden color with a small white fizzy head. (Clears up after a few minutes) Aroma of pears, oranges and coriander. Taste is fruity with pears apricots and oranges, coriander, fresh yeast and a slight peppery finish. Very nicely done.

Cheers Joe. Rich fruity aroma. Muddy appearance with a good white frothy head. Spice and fruit in there. lovely smooth texture and good to drink. Expected a little more from my initial taste, but didn’t explode with flavours. Still a tasty beer.

Bottled. Poured hazy medium orange with just a thin dusting of white remaining for head. Solid doses of orange and coriander in the nose along with passion fruit and dusty notes. The flavor picked up hefty coriander spicage and oranges just like the nose.. some peppery spices and dusty yeast surround.. heavy spices at the finish. About medium-bodied with an almost syrupy front half.. lots of spices.. felt OK. Tasty and refreshing.. just a tad too spicy for me to drink much of (if it was still available).

12 oz bottle that I lucked into finding 2 days ago. Poured a very hazy golden/orange with lots of chunky particles floating around and an average white head. Aroma yeasty with coriander and some citruis but very reminiscent of a wit. Flavor was spice, yeast, pepper with a moderate sweet finish. A very pleasant and refreshing brew that would have made a great summertime drink if Heavyweight were still around.

12 oz thanks to a trade with puzzl for this one. Pours a hazy yellow with a white head. The nose of yeast, corriander, orange peel and citrus come off pretty strong. A little too much corriander for my liking, but I like very little of this spice. Lots of corriander in the flavor as well more citrus, yeast, and a little sweet. The carbonation is soft as belgians should be and this is a pretty decent one. I have yet to be disappointed with Heavyweight, maybe more of these recipes will be resurrected.

12oz bottle, thanks to holdenn for this sample. pours hazy orange with fluffy white head. nose is pretty funky with coriander, yeasty, and orange. flavor is light, crisp, rather yeasty, orange, and light pepper. body is low-medium and carbination is nice and soft. this is a solid, tasty, belgian ale. i continue to be impressed with heavyweight even when they’re dead.
