Commercial Description:
Nick Hankin visited and we used his recipe in "Secrets of the Master Brewers" for this 60 shilling mild. This one came out very dark and roasty; a wee bit stronger than Browne but just as delicious. 3.8% ABV Brewed: July 27 Racked: August 10

On tap at the Drafting Room in Exton, PA. Cask conditioned. Poured a dark brown color with a very small sized off white head. Aromas and tastes of nuts, caramel, light chocolates, and very light dark fruits. Nice subtle aromas and tastes. Very easy to drink.

Draft at d.b.a. Dark garnet pour, mostly lasting off-white head displays regular shaped bubbles. Soft yet aromatic toasted malts come out grainy while coffee/pecan roastiness ensures the sweetness limitations. Earthy and herbal hops remain in the background while blackberry, fig, grape notes climbs to the fore scene with more agility than I can shake a stick at. Soft, smooth, dryish palate, creamy light bodied. No acidity to speak of, remarkable balance. Highly balanced and flavourful mild, a thinking man’s session beer Josh would call it. Excellent stuff, heavyweight impresses me again.

Chocolate, raisins and light roastiness in the aroma. Opaque reddish brown body with a low off white head that recedes to partial cover. Dark pit fruit flavours up front are joined by ashy, roasty and cocoa characteristics leading through to a moderate finishing bitterness. Medium light body with moderate, refreshing carbonation. Sampled on tap at D.B.A. in NYC with Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere.

Poured a dark brown color with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malt, some dried fruits, chocolate, and spruce. Taste of caramel malt, some light smoke, nuts, and dried fruits, with a faint tartness in the background. Very creamy mouthfeel.

Tap at Waterfront Ale House, Brooklyn - dark brownish copper with rather large, foamy head - roasty, almost smokey aroma - quite dry, but still refreshing - lots of subtle cocoa and dark fruit - smoke, wood - I could drink a whole keg of this.

On tap @ Buffalo Brewfest - not sure how it got there but I was happy. Nose has maple, chocolate. Flavor is cocoa, light maple, fudgesicle. Wonderful finish.

On tap. Deep brown color, thinner tan head. Pleasant aroma, lots of cocoa, light roast, moderately sweet. Similar flavor, has a fairly dry finish. Lighter bodied, but appropriate. Nice. Too bad the place doesn’t exist anymore.

Very, very light-bodied, as expected. Somewhat refreshing. Dry, with hints of aged wood and ashes, with an evident smokiness. Some caramel nad malts - smooth and easily drinkable, just somewhat thin-bodied.
