Commercial Description:
Inspired by and brewed with Bill Coleman, creator of the 'Salty Dog' strip which appears regularly in the 'Ale Street News'. Bill's homebrewed recipes were the focal point for 'Old Salty'. Made with wonderful Maris Otter pale malts and some Belgian specialties, this strong ale is really defined by the use of Challenger hops (and lots of them). Although it is brewed in the English-style, the high bitterness level (especially when drunk young) makes this beer more drinkable and reminds you where it was made. This beer is released in December and is vintage dated.

GABF 2006 post-party. 2002 vintage. The beer pours to a nice glowing chestnut colored body with a creamy white head. The aroma is sweet and salty with a nice barley. Lightly oxidized, but still really good. The flavor is aged barley, light hops. Definitely lightly oxidized but really tasty nonetheless with some sweetness. Nice thick palate.

12oz bottle via trade with Dorwart! - Thanks Jason! - Pours deep brown with no head at all. Aromas of caramel, dough, alcohol, and some yeast. Flavor is caramel, cinnamon, a bit of cherry, and a hint of vanilla. Full bodied and quite sticky on the palate. Finish is quite alcoholic. This is a big bold brew!!!

Rating #500 2004 Bottle from kramer17801 Nose is a little sour with cookiedough yeasty odor, along with a little caramel; rusty color with a hige tan head that lasted a while; flavor has some caramel, dark friuts, and even though it’s two years old, a little hop finish along with a slight alcohol burn, but not that much.

2003 Vintage via <!-- b -->eclectic<!-- /b --><!-- br --> Body is a very foggy brown, no head, pour looks very thick. Aroma is alcohol sweetness, a bit of cinnamon, and caramel is very present. Taste is a bit of caramel, light chocolate notes in the background. It’s a light barleywine, big in alcohol, but it is about as well hidden as I’ve seen, has aged very well.

Poured a brown with redish edges. Aroma was of caramel. Flavor was much the same with chocolate and something that was a little sour. Problem with this one was not very well balanced. ugh

04 bottlefrom kramer. muddy red brown with a huge loose foam head. sugared plums and cheesey yeast like nose with cinnamon, and crunch and munch. flavors remind me of some hard candies i used to eat when i was a kid, the brachs rootbeer , and cinnamon. rich supersweet muffin flavor, some grass and cheesecake linger. a very good barley wine, light cherry note throughout a good beer to drink while watching season 2 of greenwing.
