Great malty aroma. Very soft and full on the palate, with sweet malt outweighing grassy hops. Very nice Barleywine. BrockLanders (750), Panama City, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 1, 2005 Bottle. Poured a hazy chestnut color with small beige head. Nose is sweet malts (caramel, toffee), light fruits ( plum, raisins). Taste is also sweet malts with more raisin/plum qualities. Alcohol is there, but doesn’t hit me as 11%. Full bodied and mouth coating woody finish is nice. Lizabeth (360), east falmouth, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | May 30, 2005 Bottle. Cloudy medium brown, with a small off-white head that left some nice lacing. Nose: mince pie, citrus/floral hops and alcohol. Flavors are of plum pudding, caramel, citrus hops, dark brown sugar and chocolate. Odd, sweet and sour aftertaste, but overall, not bad.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 24, 2005 Hazy, chunky copper color with a dissipating head. Strong malt (toffee, cokkie dough) aroma along with earthy hops, but hops barely stand up to malt. Alcohol very prominant. Flavors of toffee and cookie dough. Some bitternees and earthiness from the hops. Alcohol again readily apparent. Good, not great. jcwattsrugger (5573), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

Color is a dark caramel/amber and clear body. Rich deep taste and yes lots of malt. Just not my preference but I would enjoy coming across this again sometime. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 10, 2005 Woooooo what an aroma of maltiness!!! And the taste definately appeals to malt-lovers like myself who love English hops. This is the 2004 version (slapping self for not letting it age). I can sense the saltiness underneath tones of appleness, raisenette amd caramel. I love the aroma and sip but the aftertones are a bit on the sugary dry side. This is the only setback for me. It makes me want to purchase some Speckled Hen but that does not have the alcoholic punch this one kicks. All I know is my English in laws would go nuts over this one and my Irish relatives would tell me how whiskey is the way to go. Mangino (1027), Mississippi, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 27, 2005 Pours a hazy brown color. Nice white head. Aroma is fresh baked bread, even a little salty. Flavor is a nice blend of sweet bready malt, caramel, and the english hops defniitely come through. Interesting beer, I’m not sure if its my imagination, or if it actually tastes "salty".
Thanks to Willblake for this one!
