So, New Jersey has a fine big beer to go with its notorious big hair! I appreciated the muted hops of the older bottle, where the belgian qwualities reigned. The younger bottle has a sharper flavor and finish (as expected). Both had full bodies and that in-your-face kindness that we love about those that frquest the Jersey shore. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA

Slight alcohol presence in the finish. Massive, creamy body is very nice. The bottom line is: sugar buzz! harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA

This is great, very sweet, with some vanilla, and maple syrup qualities. Some slightly vinous, stone fruits flavors are apparent as well. I found this to be highly enjoyable, with some slight alchohol burn in the finish. Tasty! JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 1, 2004 2003 Bottle, funny artwork. Too over-the-top sweet for my tastes in a barleywine. Very dark brown with a dark tan head (both the darkest of the barleywines tasted tonight). Strong alcoholic notes immediately on the tongue, nutty, sweet and sugary bordering on that terrible "dumpster juice" phenomenon. The dryness in the finish saves it from a teribly low rating. The year of aging probably helped! flutetokill (515), Fresno, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 26, 2004 Hazy orangish brown color with a medium beige head. Sweet malt, orange, and honey aroma. Fairly sweet apricot, malt, caramel, bread and slight alcohol flavors. Nice thick feel, with a light alcohol bite in the finish. Very good! loweredsixth (942), Fresno, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 26, 2004 Deep orangeish brown color, very murky (almost opaque) with a medium-sized beige head. The aroma was very fruity...plums, orange, and apricots...some herbal hops bitterness also. The flavor was not as sweet as I expected...fruity, more hops bitterness, and a slight alcohol burn in the aftertaste. The feel was rather thick and crisp...semi-dry finish. Thanks Willblake for this one! axilla (962), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 25, 2004 Pours a clear, medium red/orange color with a very small off-white head. Plums, yeast, alcohol, and hops all present in the aroma. Very syrupy. A very earthy and woody taste. Also some dark berries, hops and a little smokiness in the flavor. Not a bad b.w. A little aging may do some good, though.
