Commercial Description:
Inspired by and brewed with Bill Coleman, creator of the 'Salty Dog' strip which appears regularly in the 'Ale Street News'. Bill's homebrewed recipes were the focal point for 'Old Salty'. Made with wonderful Maris Otter pale malts and some Belgian specialties, this strong ale is really defined by the use of Challenger hops (and lots of them). Although it is brewed in the English-style, the high bitterness level (especially when drunk young) makes this beer more drinkable and reminds you where it was made. This beer is released in December and is vintage dated.

An amber beer with a disappearing white head. The aroma contains hops, malt, and some alcohol. The flavor contains a lot of alcohol, but also malt, fruit, and spices while the body is strong.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Vintage 2004. Very unclear amber golden with an off-white head. Clean caramel aroma. Solid body with lots of sweet caramel malt - extremely sweet actually. I miss some hops here for balance. 191206

hazy dark amber, nearly headless, sweet fruity malt aroma and flavor, malt flavor stays rich and fruity through warming, just enough bitterness to keep it balanced, should age very well

(2002 bottle) Cloudy chestnut body with small beige head. Aroma is sweet, caramel, green apple, plum, green raisin. Taste is sweet, malty, raisin/plum vinous. Alcohol in the finish is noticeable but surprisingly mild. Full body, but not full enough -- lacks syrup or sticky qualities.

I can’t believe I haven’t rated this one yet. 12oz bottle. 2003 Vintage. Poured a medium and slightly cloudy reddish/brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Lots of small floaters. Aromas of caramel, toffee, dark fruits, light alcohol, trace of citrus, and a little nutty. Tastes of caramel, toffee, lighter dark fruits, and some brown sugar. Alcohol content well hidden. This one was way too easy to drink!
