Well in my haste to rate my 100th I threw this one in the fridge to chill, on it’s side, for an hour. When I pulled it out and opened it up it fizzed up and began to overflow. I probably lost a half ounce in the tragedy but it then poured with an amazing creamy light brown head on a clear deep dark brownish/black body, it looked absolutely incredible. Aroma had notes of alcohol, chocolate, vanilla and something that I can only describe as olives? Flavor stepped it up a notch with all those flavors some alcohol warming and an incredibly silky smooth mouthfeel. I am excited that they will be brewing this one again I only hope it’s as good as the original. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA

Small tan fizzy head that mostly diminished, fair amount of lacing, opaque, and a dark brown hue. Malty, chocolate, smokey, dark fruits and alcohol for the aroma and ditto for the flavor. Mostly smooth mouthfeel. Medium body. Nicely done and quite tasty. padrefan98 (788), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA

Smells of caramel, chocolate, and some sweet fruit. Slight alcohol warming and tastes of chocolate and malt. Pretty good. Juelze (910), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 26, 2007 Trade from Nolankowal, thanks John! Pours a dark brown color with deep brown head that fades quickly. Aroma is of a brown sugar, molasses, dark fruit, and some chocolate notes. Taste is of caramel, brown sugar, molasses, some alcohol, chocolate and some light anise. This beer has a lot going on in it and it’s pretty friggin good. Carbonation is moderate and alcohol is a tad agressive but all and all a wonderful beer. JAXSON (246), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Apr 19, 2007 No, no, no, no, NO. I had moderately high expectations, but from the moment I cracked it open, I knew it would end up in the drain. And eventually, it did. Just overbearing sweetness all throughout, with little flavor profile or complexity to speak of. A misplaced hop presence lingered around. Tasted like brown sugar, molasses, and Robotussin. Also raisins, which I evidently don’t like in a beer. I think the "hops" I noticed were more like melted metal; just awful. I notice the ratings for this have increased since it went out of production...why? Awful. PilsnerPeter (2617), Flushing, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 16, 2007 12oz Bottle dated 2005- Sampled 3/15/07. Pour looks a bit thin, with a very deep brown appearance and lots of ruby tints. The loose tan head quickly becomes a thin ring at the edges. Aroma is very pungent. Boozey, chocolate liquer, oak, espresso background, and BBQ smokeyness. It has a bit of a thin mouthfeel, but the flavor is robust and full. It has smokey, meaty flavors upfront. Wood notes, along with BBQ and vinegary subtleties. Some peaty chocolate characteristics and some roasty java flavors show up in the boozey, lightly roasted finish. This stuff is unique. It has a bit of a watered down feel, yet the flavor is pleasantly assertive and complex. A lot of stuff going there. An interesting and circuitous Porter. Fantomas23 (463), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 23, 2007 Huge aroma of milk chocolate, coffee, and plump raisins. Taste is more of the same plus some smokiness and a little bit of a twang. Sweet, almost bubbly. The more I drink, the more I’m reminded of chewing on a licorice stick. Fantastic execution of a great style. sheatripper (863), Brooklyn, New York, USA

Maybe the bottle is more valuable now (like artists or musicians after they die), but I doubt it. So I’ll just drink it now. Very black colored with a quickly fading tan head. Aroma mostly of molasses, prunes and raisins, with some pumpernickel-like dark malt underneath. Chocolate aroma emerges as the beer warms. Flavor of sweet dried dark fruit (prune and raisin again), with some chocolate in the background. Coincidentally, like "sersdf," the rater before me, I also just rated the DFH India Brown Ale before trying this. The "Raisinettes" of the DFHIBA commercial description, which I could not quite pick up in that beer, seemed to pop up in large numbers here, except with dark instead of milk chocolate, and prunes instead of raisins. I was expecting more burnt flavor, but this could be an older bottle so everything might have mellowed. Seems like a good cigar beer. I’m strangely enjoying this a lot (maybe I’m secretly mourning). RIP Heavyweight.
