| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 29, 2006 Bottle. It’s either super dark brown, or black, opaque, caramel colored head. Nose is huge, roasty malts, alcohol, sweet bananas, coffee, burning alcohol at the end. Slightly spicy, kind of like almond extract. Flavor is malty, smoky, vinous, nicely bitter, nutty, and again alcohol. Way too watery on the palate for me, but nicely carbonated. This is a good beer for sure, it’s too bad the guys at heavyweight aren’t around any more, they had some good stuff to offer.
I adjusted my rating (up) after drinking this beer slowly. It was pretty warm when I started drinking, but it really grew on me, a good one. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 27, 2006 Bottle. Opaque body with a dark beige medium ring of bubbles. Nose is a big hard slap of malt extract goodness. Taste-chewy, not too sweet, spicy, fig, grape. Raisin, apple, light smoked meat, dark fruit, light roast. An absolute pleasure to drink, with the roast, spice, and fruitiness from the lager yeast all perfectly balanced. Plain and simple: one helluva damn fine freaking beer! beerbill (1976), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 27, 2006 12 oz. bottle. Pours an opaque black with a thick, creamy tan head that lasted through most of the glass. Pleasant aroma of coffee and malt. Initial flavor was decidedly malty with coffee and chocolate notes as well. As the beer warmed, flavors of raisins and prunes emerged. I really enjoyed this beer and am disappointed to see that it is retired. glkaiser (1172), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 20, 2006 Dark dark brown almost black. Very little head. Very nice coffee aroma stands out. Some hops and anise. Bittersweet chocolate taste with lots of coffee, especially at the finish. Very good...not sure I’ve had any other Baltic Porter’s, but this is tasty. Smooth and thin. My girlfriend says this beer tastes like bunnies. I think she’s had too much vino. BitchesBrew (710), Berkeley, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 14, 2006 [bottle] Wonderful aroma of chocolate, coffee and a bit of vanilla. Pours an almost black, reddish brown color, with a solid coffee colored head. Leaves some decent lacing along the glass. Flavors are very malty, with chocolate and coffee making up a majority of the flavors. A bit of licorice and clove come through towards the end. Full bodied, sticky mouthfeel. Long, slightly bitter coffee flavors in the finish. Really nice. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 14, 2006 Poured a thick dark brown maybe black color. Aroma was was of hops coffee chocolate and something i couldn’t figure out. Flavor was the same, the coffee jumped on my tounge, bitter coffee. Not a bad beer but nothing amazing.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 13, 2006 Updated: Oct 26, 200612 oz bottle via trade with kramer17801(thanks jason!). Pours out a motor oil thick midnight black with no head. Wonderful aroma of anise, chocolate, raisins, and licorice. Draatz, i was looking forward to this, but is VERY sour, pretty much a drainpour. Oh well, will try another one some other time. Arrghh. ***Next day-rerate*** Via trade (thanks cornboy!)
This one pours out not quite as black. Still no head. milder aroma, fruity, cherries, grapes, caramel. Smells like a bock. Tastes like a Dopplebock. Nothing like a Baltic Porter. My guess is it is starting to sour which is why it tastes the way it does and there is almost no chocolate or coffee flavors normally associated with this style. Closer to Ayinger Celebrator. Good carbonation even without the head. A slightly sour fruity finish.Awful as far as style, very good as far as being a good beer. For style it gets a 2. For good beer it gets a 4. Splitting the difference and calling it a 3.
